HR

HR is a crazy concept. take all the theatre kids and make them the extrajudicial na-i / hall monitor priestly class of every organization. how did they gain so much power?

HR only exists and only function is to keep the company from getting sued.

While I was in school, people that majored in HR or Organizational Development’ type degrees were usually failed Finance/ Accounting majors that couldn’t hack it.

Their comp is way higher than it should be. They get in on the huge bonuses and RSUs. Are they ever on call? Was their degree as hard to obtain as an engineering one?

HR is to sing the corporate tune and safeguard against law suits. They send offer letters and the day termination comes, they walk you out and disable access. The human element is for the namesake.

HR is inversely proportional to the competency of management. Just take a look at the Globalfoundries forum on this site, they're so well funded they have interns scouring it with downvotes.

Who protects HR? Sounds like a horrible org to work for that requires terrible people. Can't imagine growing up to be a astronaut, senator, scientist, but ending up working in HR.

HR has one purpose: to serve the the company. HR is not your friend and definitely not on your side. They called me once as a witness to a fight. When the interview was complete, they asked me "while we have you, is there anything else you'd like to say or get off your chest"? Fishing much, HR?

HR, while we have you, anything you'd like to share here?

Please remember as much as they pretend to be and all the hoopla and noise they make …..HR is NEVER your friend. Their over arching mission is to protect the company not you. So if you have a big issue it’s best to contact and consult with an outside employement legal team or advisor before approaching HR. And asked for everything in writing always

you’re giving hr way too much power…

it’s the weakest org in any company.

it rolls over all the others.

the reason why you think hr is so powerful is because it’s doing its job and making you think it acts independently, when its job is to take orders from the ceo and other orgs to clean up messes and deal with issues, so they can move on running the business….

hr is the hand of the king, ceo sh--s, hr wipes.

feckless ceos abdicate their power, and different elements of their companies take over.

hr has troublemakers, just like eng, legal, sales, and other orgs.

but it’s the job of the ceo to take charge and call the shots.
hr is not on your side, just like any other org in the company is not on your side. each org has a master, which should be the needs of the company.

hr isn’t a crazy concept if you understand opportunity cost.
why have engineers handle hr functions when you can have them focus on building a product? or sales closing clients?

hr serves an important function of finding the right people, compensating them well, dealing with their bs, and exiting them when they are sc--wing up.
