Those spouses you talk about are members of the WIT community. How dare you speak about them? :)

Brilliant comment!!!! every h1 engr's spouse is also a s/w engr. many of dem were unable to secure jobs in india. interestingly, all of dem got placed in tech delivery teams. wow the couple ar receiving job promotion at the same time. I wish DG does some clean up of these so called spouse talents.

Agreed H-1 are specialized skill management furbabies. If H-1 itself is this obsolete imagine EAD’s - Fake experiences with zero work ethics.

the goal of the 'highly skilled' h1b's is to drive wages down and demotivate you. as long as they can throw s against the wall for a few hours and then allow mgmt to celebrate their heroic overnight efforts it matters not what they do.

worth remembering as you head to the ballot box in the next few days.

Is there any tracking done on the mainframe engineers ? I get to see them relaxing much. Forgot to mention even some of the h1b too are not performing to the level. I believe h1b is meant for specialized skills right?

I suspect you'll see a drastic shift in how things get done, in the new era of TG. With his focus as a "field first" advocate, we should expect that those folks will be fully dictating what get's priority, and what falls to the wayside.

As we see EA getting shuffled, and ESD preparing to "adjust" some headcount... you can already see the shift in focus. If you're not contributing to putting money in the pockets of our field... you might do well to start thinking about how you can demonstrate that.

Actually I agree with the imbalance post. This is true in ICS too. We can give up half of our people and we will work better.

There is a lot of imbalance in this company. Lots of people are working theirs butts off while others are just cruising. ESD could cut a third of the engineers with no impact to productivity. If anything productivity might increase with how much time the parasites drain from the real engineers.

I tend to pair program at a lot and was recently told by my leader at NM to make sure I was also making commits to the branch I was working on versus the two of us just commiting under their profile so I would "get credit for it". This is probably why.

maybe it was looked at but it was not used this way. promotions are being decided on who has the most commits. that is different than making sure an engineer is doing anything or nothing.

This is old news, it has been going on for years. Even Neal Sample looked at this all the time.

In my area, there were people who didn’t commit code for many weeks or even MONTHS. Not sure why this is controversial. Only people worried about this are people not doing their job and dragging everyone else down.

My leader reassured me they were more worried about lazy people skating by with no commits for months. Not sure how that happens but this place has plenty of fat to trim I guess.

That is exactly what many of the engineers I know are doing. When we heard they are using git commit counts for promotions and ratings we changed the way we work.

And to answer the original question, yes they are.

It is a numbers game. So give them what they want.

So what? If it’s true why don’t you try to impress them?
