Isn't it funny how when someone in leadership has a personal issue they get all the PTO they need and expect understanding from their team....but when you have a personal issue...you can't take PTO....you are reprimanded for for mistakes made when YOU should called off and left them short staffed. This is coming from someone who have never called off in years and worked on projects after hours with no compensation.

Really depends on the role and the leader. Sounds like your leader isn’t very good or understanding.
At the same time there are plenty of roles where entry level hourly folks try to take advantage - often multiple occurrences.
If your immediate lead isn’t helpful, try HR and use things like short term disability or FMLA.
Centene hasn't bumped up 401k contribution in the last decade - time for trickle down??
I'm really sorry to hear that you had to go through that, especially during such a difficult time. It’s incredibly insensitive for a manager to prioritize work over a family emergency like that. You deserve to be treated with empathy, especially when dealing with personal loss. It sounds like a really tough experience, and it’s understandable that it left you feeling upset. No one should have to choose between their job and family in moments like that.
