Job Posting Approval?

Why do we need PDR approval to apply for internal jobs in Workday? Why would there opinion matter?

In addition to advocating on your behalf for any job you post for during the PDC, the PDR is responsible for posting your current job and finding a suitable candidate to replace you. Call it what you will: professionalism, common courtesy, self preservation, whatever. While the company treats employees like commodities, you still want the person and process to work for you so fighting it isn’t likely to get you a desirable outcome.

Don’t mix that with the fact that much of current leadership are a bunch of dithering dimwits that let HR & IT policies impede the core business while failing to replenish reserves.

If the PDR doesn’t want you to post out typically consider it a good sign that
someone in your direct line of supervision wants to keep you but it could be the PDR knows you’re wasting everyone’s time, there may be better opportunities next cycle, or you’re lumped into an upcoming event.

There are many reasons they’re not going to care where you land in their process. Figure out how to make it work for you.

PDR's job is to give the illusion to experienced hires that Chevron cares about their career development or opportunities when the reality is they don't give a f*k. The real PDRs are for hipos and lifers to progress quickly on the backs of the experienced. Check out your "leaders". They are all lifers with little real world leadership skills or technical talent.

This PDC is very different. It's VERY limited, mostly Expat/Must move and Horizons. Reading between the lines it's because ROM/Layoffs are coming, so no point in moving a larger number of people around right before that happens.

Because it's Chevron and you must bend the knee, stroke some egos, and submit to them. No one knows or cares how technically good you may be, how many late nights you put in, how much money you saved, efficiencies you found or how much risk you protected the company from. It's a popularity contest so get on board and start kissing feet. Who knows if you play your cards right one day others will line up to kiss your feet and you can build an army of nepotistic minions who resent you but not as much as some other ahole in a different team.

They are representing you at the PDC and they are your development representative. It’s not that their opinion necessarily matters per se, but you want to start the conversation early so they can best represent you as the right candidate for the job. This is why early engagement with your PDR is required.

The PDRs job is to manage careers, not just having people randomly posting for jobs and moving about without any plan.

Because that’s the way it works. Why would you think that you can just post for jobs without approval?

They already know who is being given each job, so they won't approve any postings outside the chosen ones
