Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Astalavista Baby

29 years I have dedicated to this company. Sam Walton, Helen Walton totally erased. I was raised on integrity, respect of the individual, service to our members, striving for excellence. I no longer recognize the morals and values this company beholds. I have decided to move on. I will cherish the memories and relationships I have made.. immeasurable. I appreciate you but will not miss the environment. Take care of each other!! Market 26

I left Sams after 32.5 years. I had hoped to get to 35. 3 years ago I had both my knees replaced after tearing them up on the concrete and bouncing on forklifts for 30 plus years. Prior to surgery I was barely function but thanks to our GM I was able to hang on til surgery. When I came back I was moved from AM to PM shift and was forced to stay there for about 7 months despite several openings on AM merch. The PM supervisor was a real A$$hole who harassed me for all of the seven months. He had only worked at the club for about a year at that time. Finally I made it back to days where after 30 plus years and being 56 I was slowing a bit. They had us doing so much work it was unreal. Threating to fire us if we could not work an average of 10 pallets per hour. I was stocking at the cart rail when I snapped a bicep tendon in my arm because of the extreme pace. I was put on light duty. For a few weeks that was ok but about 2 months into that the management began giving me so much light duty work that I barely could get it done even when literally running to get it all done. The event that made me leave was when I was told I had to be able to get 100 price signs sorted , reprinted for size where necessary , change out all the yellow colored sign holders , reprint all necessary clothing signs and .... do all that while responding to forklift calls IN NO LONGER THAN ONE HOUR !!!!!!! I was told that over the radio. I responded that I was literally running to get it done and that other workers kept asking me why I was running. The teamleader, who I am certain was told to do that to me by a manager , only responded that it had to be done. And I was doing all that while under Drs orders to not lift my hands above my shoulders or pull / push heavy skids. All of which has to be done to do signs at all let alone get them all done while answering forklift calls in a hour's time. I knew that night I was being readied for firing. All because I was on light duty for an injury they caused by extreme work loads. Mind you not a single soul in that club could have properly finished 100 signs and respond to ongoing forklift calls in one hour. When I turned in my two week notice the next day only one teamlead asked me if I was sure I wanted to give up all I had built up over the years. NOT ONE SINGLE MANAGER who had been there for 20 plus years knowing my excellent work record asked me if I was sure I wanted to leave. Every manager there had at the time a minimum of ten years and most more than twenty. Their lack of trying to get me to stay told me 100 % they were building up to fire me. .. I left on August 26 2022. They harassed me about getting my work done up til the last moment of clock time. They waited till everyone on AM shift clocked out to round them all up in the cry baby safe room to give me a cake and 2 25 dollar Bob Evans gift cards. No one ate cake. They were all ready to go home. What a shame to treat a long term associate that way. They should have gathered everybody for the cake a half hour before clock out time. They should have made a club wide announcement that I was leaving. They did not. I was in that building for 29 years. I got along with almost all the hourlies. Management smiled at my face and stabbed me in the back. For several years I had a recurring nightmare about a bad person. I would say that person had visited me again. No one from my Walmart history. Yet after I left I have never had a nightmare visit from that person again. I have had 2 years of peace. Should have left 20 years before I did. ..... Good for you getting out at 29 years. Dont look back. Enjoy the peace.
