Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Not hiring from Centene

Can anybody shine some light on these posts about not being considered because they were employed at Centene? Is this real?

I find it hard to believe that just because someone worked for centene they are not even considered. What would be the reason? Every type of position?

Or is this just pot stirring and pointing blame?

thank you for the additional info. That totally makes sense now as to why a recruiter or anyone in HR would reach out if they weren't aware you fell under the centene umbrella and then have it lead nowhere. The way others posted comments makes it seem as if centene is specifically listed in their job history and recruiters/hr were purposely reaching out to those people just to say yeah, we're not bothering with an interview because you work(ed) there.

Although I've never had a job where there wasn't any training no matter how minimal so it doesn't make sense to not hire Centene employees for lack of training when they're going to train you in THEIR processes. No one ever says, "there you, get to work. You did this before so you should be able to do it here. Good luck."

In any case, good luck to everyone looking. Here's hoping for employers who are open minded enough to give people a chance regardless of where they previously worked.

It's true. I was told by SEVERAL recruiters that some companies were apprehensive of taking Centene's former staff due to the lack of training and Centene's hiring practices.

Also my resume didn't read Centene. What my resume has on it; is the name of the Subsidiary I worked for 5 years. As the conversation continued I explained how my plan fell under that Centene umbrella. Just for clarification

No it's absolutely true. I had a Recruiter from Blue Cross tell me that I have to be gone for a year from Centene, that is there policy before I would be up for consideration. Now I got laid off August 2023 was paid through October. I got a very decent severance package.

I just posted this on the other thread:

"What I don't understand is if you clearly listed Centene as part of your work history, why would any HR department or recruiter waste their time and yours by contacting you only to turn around and say we're not hiring centene employees. It doesn't make sense. They would just pass on your application altogether because it's not going to lead anywhere!

Now, I'm not saying you're lying but I've seen similar posts and I can't help but wonder who these HR people are who don't seem to know what they're doing or at the very least are stringing people along and giving false hope of a job opportunity.

Perhaps someone who's worked in HR is willing to shed some light into this and if it's common practice to reach out to people you know you're not even going to interview just to tell them you're not going to interview them least of all because they worked for some specific company because the most I've ever gotten is an email saying thanks for your interest but you're not qualified, someone else was more qualified, we're going a different route, etc but never a call to then turn around and be so sad. sorry, not sorry but we're not going to interview you cause of where you worked. Thought I'd call and let you know don't get your hopes up. 🙄"

Personally "I" believe people are lying or making assumptions as to why the call led nowhere but I wasn't part of the call so how can I really say? The only calls I've ever gotten was to set up interviews and only ONCE in my entire work history did I have a hiring manager call seeking clarification on some info listed on my app which then led to setting up the interview. So I don't know. This is the only place I've ever seen people saying this "allegedly" happens.
