It's confirmed. Centene is currently silently laying off people. I have no idea how long this has been going on or how long it will last, but it fits their pattern from last year, where in August 2023 they did the same thing. The number of people being laid off at any one time is small enough they do not have to announce it to the press

Centene had managers verbally read from a script to inform LVN's in California that by June 13,2025 they will be offered a severance package. HR and management are not on the same page when it comes to giving employees the information. They will not provide anything in writing as well. HR indicated that is is a reduction in workforce, but some management say that it is a licensing issue and those affected will have an opportunity to apply and interview for a different position. The current pay rate was not guaranteed. They are also wanting the LVN's to train the new RN's that will be taking there position.
Key Notes:
- Employees verbally told it was not a layoff per management, however HR verbally indicated it is a Reduction in Work Force.
- No guarantee of new position, must apply and interview.
- Current pay rate in question.-
- No written information being presented.
- HR and management not on the same page with information and contradicts each other.
- This has created many questions by employees that simply were told cannot be answered or they are passed to HR or management.
- Employee's were not given an option to access training, but found out that if they were in a bridge program they wouldn't be affected. However cannot get into a bridge program to stay?
I was Just notified of my lay off today. Zero warning.
Why is it people act surprised when the snake bites them?
This is what companies do. Only way to offer some protection is to unionize.
During the 3000 person layoff in 2021, during the pandemic, they laid me off and my access was cut by the end of that day. They did provide my standard pay for another month, got my bonus (yep, I understand some are no longer eligible, but we were in 2021 and got a bonus earned in 2020), and severance. That layoff made the news and newspapers in February 2021. When they have cut before, like you describing now, I never saw those in any news source.
If financial performance continues falling hard and below the target range, then we can see a wider layoff round to happen before Christmas than current situation. https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/centene-forecasts-third-quarter-profit-below-wall-street-estimates-2024-09-10/
Some are let go the day their layoff. I got 3 weeks notice.
Haven't they always done silent/rolling (whatever) layoffs and only announced the one because of the leak? Is this news or surprising? Or even that there's layoffs going on? Just wondering.
Many were laid off August 1st had payouts until August 30th. Offered severance but if you take the severance you cannot sue for discrimination or retaliation per the literature. You get subsidized COBRA premiums as well depending on the length of your time with the company.
The term may not be silent layoff - but rolling layoff, sorry, not sure about that. Just know some people have been let go and it appears not for performance reasons. Have no idea of the scope
When they are notified, do they get 60 days to work? Or immediate?
Do you have more details or personal knowledge of this? Something helpful.
