Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Q for those looking for another job

What’s your experience? I’m at the insurance side. I’ve been trying for almost six months now, and no luck. I was offered a couple of jobs, but in all cases compensation was lower than what I earn now. I’m beginning to despair because I want to leave this job badly. Anybody having advice, or good experience to share? I wouldn’t mind going outside the health industry, I’m just not sure how my skills and exp would be valued in other fields.

I started looking at hybrid roles & onsite roles at local hospitals. I also looked online at different job titles. I got nowhere for months & then all of the sudden I got 3 opportunities all at once. All pay more than Anthem & none are insurance companies. You can find other work that pays just as much if not more. I was not part of any RIF I’m just tired of the BS. I took a position that requires me to be onsite for a year & then hybrid. I’m looking forward to learning new things & working in a professional environment again.

If you are under 40, you need to be looking outside of healthcare. If you choose to remain, you need to build your skillset that doesn't pertain to healthcare. The industry is shaky and the outlook is not good - it's going to get far worse.

My local employers typically only hire H1 workers who are recently graduated.

I have no hope of getting another job at my age unless selling my home and move my entire family. I don't know what to do.

I would rather take the jobs that are paying less from my experience. I was rif'd early in the year and was choosy with jobs I applied for based on the pay as I was looking for a job within my pay range from Elevance. I learnt the hard way as I am still looking for a job and would take whatever they offer as that is better than nothing since I have no income. I have had series of interviews that are going to pay less than what I got an anthem. That way I can start building and hopefully have a pay increase as time goes on, once selected.

First step is to understand you get paid based on the value you add and how you can sell it. Second, realize that when you go to a new company or industry, you very likely will get paid less until you deliver the value to that company. The most important thing is that you do a job you like. If your focus is simply make the same/more as what you make at Anthem, you will be disappointed. Anthem may pay well but there is NO future there.

I was rif'd in this last round and am finding most jobs are paying less than what I'm making now. I am applying internally for same type of role but am concerned as I sit at the topmof the pay range and am afraid that my salary will turn some hiring managers off. I expect to take a pay cut and will if that means I get employed before sub pay runs out. Companies slow hiring around Q4 and I don't want to be unemployed for too long. I am getting turned down on about 60% of other healthcare companies. I wonder if other companies don't want to look at Elevance Health employees or if the market is just that saturated.

Just a thought...Is there an adult educational institute near you that offers certificate programs? These often offer a wide variety of courses. Perhaps this is a viable for you.
