Why are you staying in Xerox?

This is an honest question. I’ve been here for over ten years, and I became both complacent and stuck. Now I’m afraid that I’m not marketable at all. I have two kids, elderly parents who I partially support, and debt I have to service. I’m scared to death to even try looking for another job because possible disappointment will push me into despair. Not all of us are flexible, easily adaptable, and confident people. I’m a good and competent worker, I just am not that ideal material for today job market and corporate culture.

I would suggest spending the money to hire a job coach for a few sessions. After being laid off in 2018 I was fortunate that Xerox was still paying for such coaching. It was mind boggling how much I learned and could put into a resume, in current terms. Also, I appreciated skills I had that I didn't even realize I possessed! It took listening to people in other companies and industries to value what I could offer to a new employer. Please don't sell yourself short! If you use any systems in your job, well, those are transferable skills. It implies you can learn new systems. If you use MS applications for example, that is certainly a basic set of tools at Xerox that not everyone in the market may have. Are there any certifications you either have or could get? These are proactive steps you can take to feel better about your prospects. Best of luck in moving forward!

It’s already been proven that Zerox is in a death spiral and they will fire you eventually. Put your energy into crafting a strong resume and practicing interviewing so you can get outta there. It worked for me.

People are burnt out by the workload and don't apply elsewhere because of it. no one is at Xerox because they think leadership will fix things or that their career will grow. it's good enough and they fear they can't get better. they can. they just need to apply 1 hour after work, to applying and working on their resume. they will find a new career that appreciates them. if they're here, reading this forum, they care. they care about their job, and believe it or not, they care about Xerox. those kinda people will succeed.

I was laid off by Xerox in 2012 at age 54. It only took me 9 weeks to find a new job and I wasn't looking aggressively. A lot of us knew our time was limited and other co-workers were very negative before I was laid off. They said things like: your skills are outdated, you cannot compete with younger people in the work force, college graduates are up to date with skills, etc.

My advice is to get your resume up to date and start looking. If you get laid off then it won't be the end of the world. Personally, I wish Xerox had laid me off earlier in my career. My job after Xerox was much more rewarding.

Xerox wasn't the place to be 15 years ago - it isn't the place to be now unless you only need a couple more years until you retire. It may be an okay place to work for some people but overall I think it best to leave Xerox at any opportunity.

Wow. You can make an excuse not to do anything forever. You all have had ample time and ample warnings.
This should not even be happening. You all should have been out of there Long Long ago. By now you would have had tenure in another company that truly respects what you do, and appreciates you working there.

Nothing more I can say… I tried.. and I was told I was a competitor or crazy or just wrong. Now you know. The hard way… they used you and are gonna toss you away, once they destroy your life.

No more warnings. They will fire you with an email if your lucky…

I stay because I have enough income from other sources that my Xerox salary, while nice, is not required. If I needed to work I would have been gone 5 years ago. My best skill is determining BS and SB has been shoveling it for years. I knew we were done when Jacobsen crapped his pants and Ichan took over the company without a due diligence.

Better to control your own future than leave it to the clowns running XRX today. You will absolutely lose your job eventually. It can be a really tough market right now if you are in the wrong age or salary bracket. XRX has IRIF'ed some really outstanding people in the last year so don't kid yourself about your value. Nobody has anything special that exempts them from an action. Sounds like you have a lot of responsibility. Get moving. If looking for a job will push you into despair, better to find out sooner on your terms. If you are under 40 and under $100k you will be much better off then over 50 and over $100k.

Why not? Xerox has provided me a good living for 30 years, I have ups and downs with my customers but they still love me, my manager always goes to bat for me, almost ready to retire.
