Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Ivan’s Townhall

What did you hear? My takeaways:

  • Progressions are lateral, not vertical
  • 20% job grade reduction compared to 2022 DSW levels, so probably higher than that compared to 2023 levels
  • Ivan would not give specifics on job grade, country, or organizational reductions beyond broad sweeping statements
  • Mooi Fung would not give specifics about severance if you don’t apply, seems to be country specific. Recommended to reach out to HR Ops to get those details, which exposes employees curious and wanting to know more.

I agree @1guw+1uej8l2o. Too much hiding behind cameras to deliver the tough message. And they deleted all the Menti questions afterward. Super dystopian.

It is the most vague town hall I have ever seen. “Leaders” reading bullet points from slides. In the end you cannot make sense what they actually saying

Why not mention the new UK org chart and new SVP that popped up on the change portal (JGSE)? Where does that report? There are some technical workers under that and they aren't mapped to an EVP. Also, anyone actually comb through the org chart? So many mistakes in there - positions without reporting lines - like (but not limited to) 'subsurface lead Bonga North' on page 280.

Not much new from previous town halls, same fluff as usual, why it’s important to the organization and how this time it’s different. They still seem to be working out the details.

They say it’s country specific, but then often the info is not easy to find at country level, at least for uk. They like to hide what the package would be which is out of line with the management commitment to be transparent and causes more stress and uncertainty for staff.

Severance will always be country specific due to difference in labor laws

Do more with less, and you MAY get to keep your job.
