Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The same people who created our problems cannot fix them

It will take months if we mis-manage change the way we have for the couple of last org changes. In the mean time management take whatever small attention they have on the business away to mainly focus on protecting their fiefdoms and favourites ensuring yet another failed execution. Potentially impacted staff will have many months of distraction and uncertainty...it has already been said nothing expected to happen this year in ABU on headcount, which really means..."we don't have plan yet". Chevron cannot effectively manage org changes. The same people who either created our problems or have been raised in our leadership pathways cannot fix them. We have all seen it time and time again. Why our Board can't work this out is in part a product of the terrible governance of combining the Chairman and CEO position. If we had a Chairman there is no doubt we would not have the same CEO now. Mike is un-sackable unlike the rest of us! Hopefully the big shareholders will work this out one day when they get sick of our underperformnce and lack of vision. The next CEO needs to be an external hire. We can't control what is happening so I for one will keep showing up to do my best and have some fun along the way.

Once JW then MW decided there were to be no more foreign assignments (well, maybe for some high-pots), 2016-2020, there was a rush of repatriating "managers" in wildly successful BUs like Angola, Indonesia, Singapore, Aberdeen, etc. Since they were "managers" there (basically glorified paper pushers and babysitters for the locals), they had to have "manager" positions back stateside. Lo and behold, what better place to put them than to use their "world class" experience in the "transforming" Chevron 2020 to present. Lots of our present problems trace back to these poorly qualified "managers".

2lcs+1uaKyb2Y, absolutely correct the arrogance of some caused the real proven problem solvers to walk way in 2020. Powerpoint and AI youngsters don't know how to solve problems

We allowed the best people to fix the problems walk out the door in 2020. How wrong was the company's low value of experience and proven performance then. Now they are paying the piper. The arrogance of the ignorant.

“We” won’t be managing anything. Chevron has hired Express Works to manage and perform this transition. They actually brought in outside pros to do this so No, won’t be Chevronized.

Chevron has been adrift in the water since 2014 - no long-term strategy, no staff or management development, just a merry-go-round of trendy social experiments. Yes, this pre-dates MW, but remember that Project Alpha was headed by none other than EB, your next CEO. Don't expect much to change.

The change management and organizational consultants that are hired to analyze then execute have no incentive to get things done quickly. They are only used to be the “bad guy” so the higher ups can pretend to keep their hands clean. Get ready for even lower moral as the process continues.

So many whining, you guys who complain all the time are really clueless sadly, this is about running a business, a corporation, it has nothing to do with you personally, nor your opinion, to run a business you need to generate positive cashflow,, to stay in the business with many peers, you need to attract investment, and to do so, you have to show your profit margins are the highest or have plans for it, plain and simple, it boils down to restructuring, it happened in the 80's by moving the manufacturing out of the US, now they are also moving the engineering and functional overhead organizations overseas, it has an impact on individuals adversely, but companies thrive, sorry but it is what it is in the capitalism, best is to enhance your skillet and find a job with someone else and not as big or better to set up your own business.
