Thread regarding F5 Networks Inc. layoffs

18 months ago F5 threw me out as trash

I started a new software position some weeks ago on the East Coast. It was a long time in the making. Not missing F5 or Seattle.

No DEI, no agile, no scrum, no SAFe, no JIRA, no BRPs, no story points, no sprints, no program increments, no release train or solution train engineers threatening unpleasant conversations, no pair programming, no lean programming. No directives of forced collaboration, no daily/weekly/monthly meetings, no performance reviews.

Just software engineeing at its best

I've never understood the hate that Agile/Scrum gets from F5ers as an NGINXer.
  • Prior to the scrum effort, BIG-IP development effectively mimic'd feature-driven development (a lesser-common agile method).
  • BIG-IP's salient issue wasn't development methodology. It's crucial issue was the incongruity of staffing an industry-leading, mature product in a mature market like a feature-impoverished product in a growth market.
  • Many four year olds have stronger critical thinking skills than the VP who instigated the debacle. No rigorous analysis was done to make a compelling case for the upheaval nor was it clear what the benefits would be. Dismally justified disruption disillusions.

I've never understood the hate that Agile/Scrum gets from F5ers as an NGINXer. I guess it was introduced in a poor way or something but it's a fairly industry standard software development practice. What is the alternative that y'all want, waterfall?

Really curious what your new company does then as an alternative to Scrum.
