Does anyone know if there are plans to return people back to the office?

To the people thinking that the managers/directors didn’t stand up for their people, I assure you many of us do. Managers have zero authority at this company, we are the hired goons that are forced to take out the orders directed from above. As a people leader I had no say in who was riffed, no say on RTO. I had to fight through three meetings with HR for one of my associates to have an accommodation to being in office and after all of it, with a documented disability, it was only approved for one year so I’m preparing myself for that big war for a 2025 accommodation. Many managers put themselves on the line daily for their teams, we are stuck in a bad spot of needing our paychecks and caring about our people.
The directors/mangers didn’t stand up for 100% remote workers because they didn’t want to be riffed themselves. They are just towing the company line.
The job I was hired for was listed as 100% remote. Not one manager/director etc…. had the sack to stand up for their employees. So now I do the bare minimum and pray to get RIF’d.

Is today the worst day of your life?
Wow that's messed up!
So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it.
I think it depends on department and role. Our office closed during COVID and from what my managers told me, there isn’t room for all of our team at the remaining office.
@3pgs+1uWmOL8p that's exactly what they are hoping for. For people to quit so they don't have to RIF and pay. RIF costs the company money. If you quit, it doesn't cost them a thing. That's the whole point of forced return to office policies. This is what they are hoping happens. It has nothing to do with "collaboration."
If I go back into an office more than one day a week (was hired by this company to be 100% remote years ago), it is going to be for another company where I actually work with people at that office cause that sure isn't the scenario I am dealing with right now. Going into the current assigned office is a COMPLETE waste of my time, money and productivity.
It doesn’t matter if you are 100% work at home, you still cannot transfer if you live over 50 miles from an office. You would need to move at your own expense to be considered for a different position. I confirmed with my manager that the office must be one that is open & able to be used by the employee if needed to count as being within 50 miles of an office.
Here’s what I know: if you are full time work from home and bid on a job, you’ll be expected to work the hybrid model. If you are unable to work the hybrid model, you won’t be considered for the position.
If you move, you have to get approval from your manager and HR and will be expected to work the hybrid model.
So, in short, no office in your town and you want to change positions - you’ll need to move or stay in the position you currently are in. There are only a handful of positions that allow 100% work from home.
I am not in HR or a people leader...but I did hear in a meeting some time ago that slowly the number of days in office will increase.
I also wonder the same thing. During covid, they permanently closed the office in my city.
