Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What’s the criteria for layoffs?

I’m relatively new to Chevron, and have no idea how it works here. In my previous company they only cared about your pay and whether you are on the brink of leveling up. Those they could make the easy cuts with were always first to go. Nothing else mattered. You could work your a-s off, and still be first on the list if you were decently paid. Do Chevron people take anything else into consideration?

Basically if you are an @-hole you will always have a job especially if you lead people. HR will always protect you.

skills insights will be big this time for SEs and with LC not having past “relationships”… he will assume leadership is the cause of the issues of lack of result - that will be his target… if he want a result focused culture instead of “busy work” to show in final PMP. many managers don't hold people accountable because of future “relationships”. I would see him doing what Bank of america did in the 80s

They target to cut older white males first.

Network. Performance relative to cost. Diversity check box.

Typically in that order... You then have the overprint of incumbents being at a natural advantage, differentiated job skills, location flexibility, etc.

First.. they go through their friends list of who to keep. Then they expand to the people that make stuff happen, have been recognized highly, etc. Then they start on PMP results and keep top performers. Also you get a lot of the boot lickers in there too... DN. Finally they'll look to see how many jobs are left and then pick of people "they know".
The remaining people it's a cr-p shoot. But now with Skill Insights, anyone not measuring up to their level till be put at bottom of list as well.

I’ve been in a hiring authority for sometime and let me tell you exactly how it works, we go in a room and talk about the list of candidates and select our “favorites”, it’s really that straight forward, and that’s how we end up with so many awful GMs like TK, AG and RS and such…but sometimes the process works and we end up with good GMs like MA and CL and such. It’s really that simple.

at least in the past, It was based on a mix of personality traits and intelligence. Cant have Schmucks with rotten personalities with delusions of grandeur, thinking they have an intelligence of a Nobel laureate. Who knows how this layoff evolves - it could be the other way around.

Well, firstly re orgs about the masses not the bosses, this is an American company. Then you have to look after their mates. Obviously those of a certain age who have been around have to go because they don't buy the BS and lies. Of course being 2024 the bulk of the cuts apply to men, preferably right handed and into sports etc. Finally, you have to leave just enough bottom feeders for the next time because there is always a next time. And whatever you do, do not get rid of those who have been a disaster in terms of systems as empires are founded on their mistakes guaranteeing years of employment.
