A Case Study in Mismanagement: How USB Became a Textbook Example of What Not to Do

This bank has been so poorly managed that it could easily serve as a textbook case study for business schools on what not to do. Failed workforce strategies, how to repel talent and disengage employees, how not to execute layoffs, how not to communicate. Andy and Elfio could easily have their own page, complete with photo and background. I'm kind of surprised no one has done a story on the downfall of this bank yet.

Don’t be misled. The cool stuff is not aimed at solving the real problems. It serves individuals. Look closer. It is designed to generate work and justify a position or enhance someone’s career. Any benefit to the bank is secondary at best.

This extremely vague. What exactly are they working on?

I agree with all but I keep getting called into meetings where there are people developing really cool stuff - I am not in that group clearly. So it appears there is the bank of the future and it doesn’t include all of us.

This company is either going to try to do an abysmal merger with Truist or it’s going to start selling off parts of the business. PNC will not consider trying to get a merger pushed through regulators nor do I think Bill Demchak believes USB is a worthwhile acquisition. Were failed franchise.

G.K. is going to cut, cut, cut and outsource as much work as possible.

Meanwhile in Minneapolis there are “fun committees” that brainstorm ideas to lift the employees spirits. Please, do not insult my intelligence you kool-aide drinkers. If it looks like 💩, smells like 💩 it’s most likely 💩.

When will the weak board step up to its responsibilities to oust the entire management committee and the senior leaders. Bring in an outside leader and hit restart!!!!

100%! The current executive team must all be planning to retire once they run it into the ground because they couldn’t possibly get another job after being attached to this disaster.
