Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Weak Leadership

Layoffs are coming. It’s October in a year that begins with 202, so let’s not mince words here folks.

What this community isn’t focused on is what this actually means. Why continuously layoff employees 2 to 4 times per year? The answer is simple - weak, incompetent leadership.

This appears in several ways.

  1. The C-suite is ineffective at getting corporate officers to adhere to a unified vision (likely because there is none.)
  2. Execs are bickering between themselves, fighting for a larger share of a shrinking pie and generally not leading effectively. They each have wants but no real strategic vision.
  3. upper management are ineffective because they have no vision to which they can align, therefore passing buck to lower management.
  4. lower management has been gutted and is constantly being threatened with layoffs so most competent people have left.

Layoffs are a tool. When it’s the only tool being used, it’s because someone doesn’t know when to use or how to use other tools.

I lead a team of adjuster and make less than most of them, why bother or go above and beyond on the work?

So Allstate has been around for 90+ years but can't develop a unified vision.
Every transformation is done to stymie transformation.
If it's so bad, you say move on. Yet with all that you say is so bad, you've been with the company for a decade plus.
You wrote alot of words without making a coherent point.”

I see the shills, senior management apologists and appeasers have come out of the woodwork. Keep feeding the crocodile. Maybe he will eat you last.

Like most large, old organizations Allstate is a victim of the culture that has grown up over the last 90+ years. The C suite can't get officers aligned to a unified vision because the culture is a bunch of fragmented little political fiefdoms that have grown up for the years. Every 'transformation' is a scramble to maintain turf, or get new turf and the worker bees are all just pawns in the game. So rather than change mindsets and behaviors they do what they've been rewarded to do for years. And they feed the C suite a line of cr-p about how they and the company are transforming. With the added bonus that when they successfully stymie another transformation, the C Suite goes head hunting for people to eliminate. Lather, rinse, repeat for the last decade plus I've been here.

One thing I do agree with in previous comment is: If it's so bad, move on. There are legions of strap hangers who got fat and happy at Allstate. They are a symptom of the paralyzed culture-never want to change, or just fake change for the sake of staying comfortable. As the reality of what it takes to compete in dynamic markets touches this old, tired company, the old, tired culture responds with layoffs. Understand, make yourself competitive and if you're that upset about it just move on.

I couldn’t agree more with your comment. This forum is full of those who complain. If you don’t like it and it’s the bad have some self respect and move on.

Focus? The focus of this community is "I work for Allstate - three hours a day - and I hate Allstate". You don't provide a full day of work and then you complain about it. So management has good reason to get rid of all of you.
Management reports to the BOD - the BOD reports to the stockholders. Stock price is up. They must be doing something right.
