Thread regarding CDW layoffs

What’s leadership saying?

For those of us left behind how are your direct leadership chain handling the communication? What’s the spin in your all hands?

As a mid level manager I received no heads up or much information upon learning of the layoff via the 6am email. Then it was spent waiting for my leadership to give me the signal that my team was safe and being able to address with my team; then after reading from the same script provided by CWS but trying to be as authentic as I could be. More or less majority of us are in the dark.

Very dry 2 minutes “let’s focus on the future” meeting

Management is having a meeting now with staff, and telling us that it's our fault that we didn't do well enough, and we caused our co workers to be laid off, because we aren't doing our job. THANKS, CDW!

Immediate meetings yesterday morning with our Director and then with their boss do discuss the situation and any questions we had. Much concern over how our team was handling things so reviewed with my directs in a team meeting and again in 1-1s the last two days.

Sad day yesterday but felt quite a bit of support and empathy from my direct management team.

"Make Amazing Happen" sounds like some drivel that Nathan Barley, Alan Partridge (UK folks will understand these references) or Bill Lumbergh plucked out of the air, after hitting some nose candy.

"People who just get IT" although corny, at least sounded somewhat better and more appropriate.

These posts always kind of baffle me. What do you expect them to say? The company has been underperforming for like 6 quarters in a row. Pivots, acquisitions, etc. did not move the needle so they are going to make a cut in order to help the stock price. It's not a se-y, satisfying answer. But that's the reality.

We were told to control the things we can control, continue to deliver, and push forward. It's the standard language of any RIF.

We were basically told to work harder if we don't want to be next, but in a softer tone.

They read off the same set of scripts HR provides them. Rarely authentic. Morale is always low after days like yesterday. We are all exhausted.

I can’t stand the “make amazing happen” nonsense. On top of all of this nobody in the industry or our customers have any clue what that slogan is supposed to mean. Add terrible marketing to our current issues. Competition is effectively communicating with the market and we have bad slogans to offer instead.

That was almost exactly what was in Leahys survivors email. “make amazing happen for our customers”

STFU.

We were told that we were lucky because our business segment was untouched, meaning, that we were extra secure and important so we should just keep kicking a-s.

I wonder what would happen if a manager was just honest about it, would they get in trouble? "The layoffs were a result of bad strategic choices at the top." or "CDW isn't a democracy with protected freedoms. It's a monarchy and this will happen with regularity until America stops pretending that infinity growth is possible."

Also, no details on what departments were wounded so we should reach out to management if we run into "out of office" replies from coworkers we need info from, so they can help us find the alternative people we need to talk to.

Let's the survivor's guilt begin! get IT done.

Did leadership come out and say stupid meme talk like we’re going to continue to Make Amazing Happen again?

I work in GIS, there is a thinly veiled fear culture instilled. The department is task driven rather than goal focused. Since the big change-ups starting last year, we just nod and agree to keep our jobs.

Crickets. Wonder who they disrespect most? Current co-workers or the ones laid off. Tough call!

Haven't even had them mention it. All acting like its business as normal. Just seeing all the LinkedIn "thoughts and prayers"

Leahy's email to the survivors was written by AI, and meaningless. She needs to get fired, and now.
