Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Another RIF is Set!

The following message was circulated in a leadership meeting today:

As we navigate ongoing industry challenges, we must make difficult decisions to ensure our long-term success and sustainability. We are preparing for a reduction in force (RIF) that will impact GBD and Commercial sectors, scheduled for 11/14.

Every function within these departments—Sales, Operations, Provider Solutions, and Community Services—will feel the effects of this change. Department heads have already been informed of the specific numbers, and as part of the process, a survey has been distributed to assist with employee rankings.

While these are tough times, we remain committed to transparency and will do everything we can to support impacted employees through this transition. Our focus remains on moving forward as an organization, and we believe these steps, although painful, are necessary to position us for future growth. End

May the odds be in your favor. I've been with Anthem for 12 years and it has never been this bad! The blues are out for blood in order to maximize profits. Poor leadership and unrealistic expectations are the reasons why the RIF's are used as staffing solutions.

Major RIFs have been happening for a year and all of a sudden there is a letter circulating about a RIF? I find it hard to believe if this is true a year later would be the first time anyone posted something.

I've heard there is another RIF coming from a reliable source (someone who has to cut from their team). But this OP message sounds like some AI BS.

I believe the message up front but there is no way they circulated anything like that because they know it would end up on sites like this. More layoffs are coming. carelon has missed member targets for past 5 yrs the only thing they have done is protect margin but now even that is at risk.

I call BS. The language seems off. I think this is somebody trying to get everybody worked up.

No doubt November and December. They want to balance that yearly budget.

Contact your state and your congressional representatives. Your Medicaid and Medicare funds should not be going off shore

I love how people want to believe that lay offs couldn’t happen this late in the year, get real, October & November are the highest RIF months for all insurance companies. This site has never failed me in the past. The information is accurate. Keep your head in the sand and see where that gets you.

Does this mean they won’t be laying off in October like previous posts suggested?

Maybe 2025 isn’t truly expected to be a bad year and they are just using it to get us in the mindset for rif

I was previously RIF'D in December so these can occur any time. I found another position with NO thanks to HR!! It was my manager and the hiring manager who worked together to make my new position happen! I will always be grateful to each of them!!

They did a large layoff last year right before open enrollment!

I remember the former CFO, J. Gallina in a town hall meeting saying they refer to Q4 “as layoff season”. And he laughed!

@gnm+1uLaH4UU - WTF are you talking about? Late November, right at Thanksgiving time, has been a traditional RIF time for over twenty years at this place!

Not sure about this at all. I can't really believe you would do a large layoff during open enrollment.

@gnm...When I was Rif'd years ago...I was Rif'd on 12/01. I had until 12/30 to find another position...which fortunately I did. So in my opinion late November is not unheard-of.

Thank you for sharing! Do you have any additional intel on the survey criteria? I was told a number of times my lay off was not performance based and “ I shouldn’t take it personal” although it’s very personal to ME! My Director doesn’t like me and I have reason to believe she poisoned the well and doomed me to be laid off. I could be wrong I could be right but I’m very curious about the survey you mention.

Not sure I believe this....RIFs rarely happen in late November so this seems little odd to me.
