Why does Ford still have Product Design Operations in England, Germany, Turkey, Australia, South Africa, China, that do the same as in NA ? Why does For have Non-Manufacturing operations in Mexico, Brazil, India, Turkey, England, with twin hierarchy in NA ?
In the last 10 years Operations in Europe, SA, China, etc. have consistently lose $, in the other hand NA operations have made enough $ to almost meet EBIT objectives.
The issue is not NA Labor $ or NA headcount $, it is $$$ waisted overseas. Just find Ford Financial results in Det News or Free Press archives or Google them.
Ford makes $$$ in NA but when CFO reports he combines all operations into one. Ford does not sell well outside NA then I cannot fathom why Ford keep forcing its way in markets where Ford lose big $.
All foreign OEM's design at home but the manufacture in NA i.e. Mercedes, Honda, Toyota. KIA, Subaru, etc.
Either BF has a fetish with having operations overseas or indeed Ford BOD are useless

The problem with the labor unions is that they cross corporate boundaries an are effectively a monopoly. Monopolies dictate prices. Politicians have been relying on imports and offshoring to avoid having to deal with the labor union monopolies (especially since they make campaign contributions).

Wallet Stealer IS the main reason common folks cannot afford a new car. Near every dollar goes for groceries while Waller Stealer the big Wal profits soar. That Greed is robbing other businesses like vehicle manufacturers of business.

Unions were the number one reason for overly complex part designs. They are similar to gate keepers for manufacturing, you bring new parts/designs to them, they (UAW) simply say NO we can't do that. You go back to re-design the parts, delay program, cost thousands in tooling modifications, then when the new parts are ready, they manage to put the said parts on backwards because *skilled labor. Then the process repeats all over again.
When you integrate deep into the plants you start to feel the jokes, when they say UAW.. U Aint Workin... that's a true statement. Having done many yard audits and vehicle checks, you have no idea how many times I ran across folks sleeping in these vehicles with the radios on. I recall hearing about battery drain issues both at DTP and CAP and I couldn't help but wonder how this goes unnoticed. Some poor electrical engineer was chasing his tail around trying to find out why this was happening. The road ahead is going to be a bumpy one so brace yourselves and good luck.

I am a retired salaried guy. Union pay is not the problem.. vehicles were over priced long before this latest contract... replacement programs over the last 10 yrs saw substantial jump in price.. in some cases 50% or more...That is just the beginning

Being a value shopper, I won't help subsidize overpaid union auto workers.

I don't mind the Union if they are hard workers. Look out for the company. Make good quality products. Be efficient and productive.

Unfortunately, the UAW does not have any of these ethic.

Sure, it's over paid managers that's the problem. They only run the entire business. It couldn't be the useless union button pushers making 100k/yr. A job btw anyone could do

It seems to me that the overpaid management is to blame. They are getting big big money while making poor decisions.

Unions do good fair work. Wages are fair and safety matters thanks to Unions. However the Union cannot keep the business from sinking itself into politics like the EV push or investor greed. Now the price is too high and regular folks have no money left after buying groceries at gouging prices from "WALLET STEALER"- the Big Wal.

The primary reason a company exists is to make profit. High wages threaten that goal as does too low wages. There is a happy place for wages but the auto unions have gone far and above that line for years. It has finally caught up with them.

I'm not saying this is but part of it, but when the company shifts labor to foreign countries, but tries to keep the resulting profit, people see thru it.

Look at what the price of the Maverick is doing? Made with cheap foreign labor, initially priced competitively, but then the company gets greedy because they have a hit product, and slowly start increasing the sticker.

I don't blame the UAW for wanting to get what's theirs.
