Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

Where are the leadership and executives?

Probably chilling in UK on a corporate travel. The Lesser Spotted Guru was indeed in the UK. Spotted in the restaurant at 50FS.

Yes Guru and Marky were busy in Europe. Flew on Air Chance and oops oh dear the inflight wifi (from Viasat) was terrible. The kind of terrible that is making United, Hawaiian, others, seek better. Oh but wait a moment cus it was that cr@ppy Inm@rsat wifi to blame. So relax no problem nothing to see here.....

Sad to say MD's best leadership days are behind him. He's steered the company into a tight corner. Over played a multitude of risks with VS3 birds. Paid for it with gobs of debt. Stagnated on things customers don't care about, whilst simultaneously not evolving his thinking on things they do care about. To be fair it's not just MD, he's surrounded by a tribe of nodding yes-men who never had the capability or rose to the occasion to guide him better. I've sat through years of all-hands and earnings calls to learn that no change is coming and no new understanding of the problems is coming. It's a sad mess.

However, it’s not 100% MD's fault rather the flock of vultures he's surrounded himself with over the past decade due to his naivety. He's on the verge of retiring now as a multi-millionare so has no motivation to actually put forth the effort and let what's left pick up the scraps. I've been with the company about 9 years now and felt like he's always been a talking head with no actual influence. Glad to see all the new leadership paddling their portfolios over a dying effort rather than it just fizzle out of existence.

You forgot to mention Elon has a better product, you're hiding Viasat's own failings by blaming it on Elon's marketing and tricks. And the myth of StarLink running out of capacity is just that, a wishful elusive myth. Do the math on their launch cadence and satellite roadmaps, there are plenty of documented resources out there. The uphot is they have 250-300Tbps in orbit today, the upcoming StarShip launches will increase the number of sats per launch by 10x. He figured out how to saturate space with capacity before MD and execs even got out of bed.

MarkD is an amazing engineer. His all hands quickly go into engineering problems and solutions. But we’re not fighting with the same we-pons. Elon uses money, sales trick and marketing to invade the market. Of course their product is good but will eventually run out of capacity. By that time, competition will probably be gone. Except for Kuyper maybe.

The same Inmarsat (Viasat) KA GEO inflight connectivity which did not work for Guru or Mark clearly did not work for Air France either.
The airline subsequently announced they are moving their entire fleet to Starlink LEO.
If only our execs had noticed sooner that the Viasat aviation service was cr@p !!
