Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

The truth about Exxon’s India office from an ex-Exxon employee

It’s an offshore BPO office. They do menial, repetitive tasks. They don’t do any kind of strategic work that requires critical thinking, they are effectively human robots that do work that probably should have been automated in the first place.

It’s comical to see the spin coming from Chevron leadership about following Exxon’s lead without having any apparent understanding of what Exxon’s actually done.

@1zpe I haven’t seen any jobs comeback to the US, if anything I see more jobs in India on the career website. Unless I’m being pessimistic

What's the Payback or positive ROI on the Bangalore tech center - maybe 10-15 years if ever? It's a very long-term strategy however you look at it but the Chevron management talks as if AI innovative miracles will happen in 2 or 3 years. Crazy

We tried this experiment before with the help desk, and not just the after hours desk. It failed miserably.

There's been a few current and former Exxon employees talk about their "India" office. Chevron is following along as usual being way behind. It's been 10 years and Exxon has slowly been moving resources back to US due to failed delivery. Yes the India office does quite a bit, but the quality of work is not even close from what they see from US employees.
The big question is how long will Chevron take to make the same realization. Wait till the BU's need to speak with an engineer in India, we'll never hear the end of it.

Come to think of it Exxon’s tight control not allowing Indians to progress up the ladder is probably the reason for their high attrition as well.

True of Exxon, also attrition is very high. Shell is more advanced with Oman, Brunei now supported out of India
