October layoffs are tough, especially since it’s close to year-end when finding a new job is difficult, and the market isn’t great right now. Why do companies choose to do layoffs at this time? Will they at least give employees time until the end of the year, like December, to leave? Any idea?

I'm so tired of worrying about this sh-t man. There are so many dumpster fires around the company, we would implode even without offshore. The bad member and provider experience from offshore won't hit for another year or two when we start losing more contracts.
I know I provide value every single day. I know that's known by two levels of leaders and colleagues across organizations. There is still ZERO job security here. I'm doing my absolute best in spite of the terrible decisions made all around me. And every day, I wonder why I care so much when the company doesn't.
It use to be Novmeber layoffs were the thing. Now, it seems like they are a thing of the past
RIFs are not as frequent in Q4 (but they can still occur) due to the fact that they then would have to pay you your AIP the following year. They still can happen, but from my experience they are not as frequent and not as large as ones that occur in Q3.
It is a tough time of year for layoffs. My guess is that companies will tighten belts by using RIFs and waiting to see which way the election goes and how the markets react. Then cone the nee year they will look to plug holes and bring contractors back on to augment teams.
If it happens to you or to me for that matter, take the tome during the holidays to decompress from it all. Try to upskill in areas that are marketable, like data and AI or project management. Then look to contracting as a stop gap until you find a permanent job.
It’s easier in words than in reality. And doesn’t make it any less stressful. You aren’t alone! :)
