Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

The Rise Of Fake Job Listings

There is a recent video from news outlet CNBC about the rise of ghost jobs. These are fake job listings that companies list with no intention of hiring. Cigna is guilty of doing this as I have seen several listing for jobs and no manager or director in the department is actually hiring for. It's a shady tactic meant to show investors and stock-holders the company is still growing despite the many layoffs currently going on within the company.

Some of the external postings at Cigna stay up for maybe a few days, if not 24hrs, then close. Queue the auto rejection.

“When I got my current role the HR guy called me told me they denied my counter offer on his lunch break, claiming he was multitasking. Later I found out he never communicated it.”

I have been known for asking recruiters if the hiring manager got a chance to hear my proposal. Some get upset. Don’t care. 🤷‍♂️

I applied to a role last year- I met with the manager and she said, you will be hearing back from me in the next few weeks because we talk to everyone that applies, and we just had this conversation.
Never heard back.
8 months later I get the notification saying due to “business needs” the role was no longer open.
Another internal job I reached out to the manager, and they told me that over 600 people had applied already since it was posted externally, and if I hadn’t already sent in an application don’t bother. That job was later reposted. Guess none of those 600 people got the job either.

My team flat out said they won’t release us even if we apply or get another role. I’m assuming cause some IFP roles will be left unfilled if left. I’ve been applying to outside companies and 100% there are fake job posting all over. It’s wild, also I doubt Cigna HR would tell you a god damn thing about why they wouldn’t hire you unless it was off the books. When I got my current role the HR guy called me told me they denied my counter offer on his lunch break, claiming he was multitasking. Later I found out he never communicated it. I will say I was told that off the books but I tracked it cause i don’t care lol also the dead Cigna job posting on LinkedIn are next level because HR just doesn’t close them in time or just want to farm more resumes for other roles, then say they found the candidate organically lol

Yep! I posted internally for several different positions in the last couple of years - secured several interviews - they all loved me but was not hired for any of them.

This may be related or unrelated - but specifically a position where I was one of the top 2 being considered, and they chose DEI over me because I didn't fit DEI criteria. I know this because the hiring manager actually called me to apologize and explain that I was "not lacking anything" and she "wanted to extend the offer" but there was an internal candidate identified. She called me before I got the system- generated letter of denial.

I think her conscience was bothering her - but she couldn't tell me the full truth, only half the truth. She wanted me but wasn't allowed to hire me.

One of my peers that I was close to that
worked for this manager, and knew who got the job told me (she was friends w/ manager) that it was DEI.

I'm not against DEI.

That manager retired last year. And the guy they brought in there ended up was a big disappointment and ended up on PIP.

Another interview I went on, I was top 2. They went with the internal candidate identified. I don't know what happened to the person who took the role, but roughly 6 months after it all played out, the Director (who initially interviewed me) reached out to me and offered me the role - asked me to apply again. It felt good to be acknowledged, but I politely told her no, thank you. It would have been a pretty good promotion. If you
didn't want me 6 months ago, how can I trust your judgment that you won't throw me under the bus later on.

Getting back to the point, I'm also tired of applying for fake jobs. And I never thought about it from the angle of how it makes the company look like we're doing better than we are.

Ugh, there are so many politics.

Yep, this is a thing and has been for years. I'm done applying for position internally here.

This currently explains why it's so hard to leave Cigna and find another job. I've been applying to jobs by modifying my resume each time to match the job listing. Out of many applications I have gotten a few screening calls and no real interview. I've seen several of the same job reposted. I've even applied to jobs that I am over qualified to do and still no interview. Seems like everyone I know is applying attempting to leave so competition is high on top of the many fake job listings.

Ghost job listing sounds fishy and is independent to growth factor as an outlay or expense…
