What’s the latest on the so called merger / takeover? What will change? What jobs will be cut? Will the excess management finally be thinned out ?

Yeah, I think getting Windstream and Uniti back together is step one, with another merger waiting in the wings. This ain't over yet.
I'm sure there will be some more consolidation. This win / unit merger is just lipstick on the pig. As we all know they shopped win around to zayo and friends and it made no sense without the combined assets. Unity is lining up for a sale in 2026, most likely far less than expected. C suites will walk away with their platinum parachutes.
Groups with low demand work numbers are now the target and I’m hearing the construction groups will be a thing of the past.
Honestly, I don't expect much to change. We need to shed some weight other than front line folks but the good old boy system is a hard thing to beat.
Uniti was mentioned in yesterdays Seeking Alpha post. Writer was pumping it pretty hard. He expects to see the merger in mid-2025.
