Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Many livelihoods will be destroyed

And Cisco will not be more efficient, growing, competitive, and overall better company for it. Layoffs will result in short-lived growth in valuation, upper mgmt will su-k the money out of it, and after it’s over everything will be business as usual until next layoffs and cuts. Till the day Cisco is no longer.

I've been doing this 40 years now, still working, laid off 5 times. Laid off from Cisco in February, got another job in 3 months.

With 23 years at Cisco and 40 in industry as a whole layoffs are here to stay. Saying "layoffs are like not cool dude" hasn't and won't change anything.

Cisco peaked in early 2000 when it hit $82/share. It added three more operating systems to end all operating systems while never developing leadership, systems or software skills and that's left the door open for competitors to take share in markets growing so fast Cisco could still see increased revenues while ceding share. That it's still generating as much revenue as many of its competitors combined is astounding.

As long people are working for cisco and similar low wage companies, there will always be a fear while thinking of buying a home. I was on the same boat (slightly worse than cisco) while living in an apartment complex with very young kindergartener and elementary schooler.Went out of my comfort zone and Joined Splunk. Since then bought homes with payment and now cisco or cisco layoff doesn’t matter much.
Think wherever you go, you will improve your financial position. Longer you stay here, financial instability and fear of layoffs will also stay.

A bit dramatic, eh? You either play the tech game or get out. Simple choice. Do what's best for your well being.
