I am feeling overwhelmed because I am having to do extra work for my co-workers who seem to be taking advantage of the situation at Cigna. It's frustrating because I've been picking up their slack. I think Cigna's management should conduct a thorough investigation among our current employees. It's unfair that some employees are being laid off while others who are not over-employed and not performing well are being kept. Cigna, please do better and look into the performance of these employees.

I think the red flag in the OP is the word “unfair”, I find there is not much about working for Cigna, or working in general, that is fair. You got to put on ur own breathing mask first as they say. Everything else is managed BS that no matter how you slice is will be unfair not matter how much ur manager sells it to you. Hey, I do feel for you tho, my advise is to take care of ur work first. Also, keep in mind, I experienced manufactured holes in capacity that left me slammed to a point where I almost quit, which was the point. So be careful, you might be targeted to be abused cause they want you to post out or quit. You could do HR is u wanna get fired. Good luck!
they having my team work on the weekend, they didnt even ask. they just said be available.. yeah sure.. lol
The verbiage “over employed” means something else than what you are describing. It means to have 2 full time jobs and doing them at the same time.
What you’re suggesting is over worked while others seem idle. This is rampant in certain areas of the company. This is how major companies lose top talent because it promoted people that have been here the longest and not the best people for the position. Good management can change companies - unfortunately we don’t have that here so it’s driving people to work less or give up and collect a pay check.
Overall if you don’t reward, pay your employees well and care about them then this is what happens!
OP, I understand where you're coming from. I was the same way for many years. I couldn't understand how some people could half-a-s their jobs and not take pride in their work. But the more I cared, the more was placed on my shoulders until I couldn't handle anything and needed a major break. After some therapy, I realized that was no way to live and put my foot down. I now only do my job and don't worry about anyone else. It's fine, I promise you. You won't get anything from Cigna worth the hassle of taking on extra work or worrying about other people's work.
For sure! I have been actively disengaged the last year or so and I know my productivity is swirling down the drain. The last thing I need is some bootlicker running off to management about what they think I should be doing.
Worry about yourself. That will give you plenty to do, to keep you busy.
Please for the sake of all of your other co-workers... Please STOP! There used to be a time when we all felt a passion for Cigna, but that is long gone. I know you want to keep doing the right thing, but the honest truth is that Cigna doesn't care about you or your team. Until Cigna changes back to the same culture we came from, just do your job and don't go above and beyond for Cigna anymore.
You’re out of your godda-n mind. They are probably just refusing to work more than 40-45 hours a week. It’s easy. Don’t pick up their “slack”. It’s Cigna problem not yours. If anything this company is drastically understaffed. I’m in IT and I can tell you we are all burnt out, expected to work 60 hour weeks and there are not enough people to both build new stuff and keep current stuff functioning. So next time something app related doesn’t work you can blame Cigna for being UNDERSTAFFED.
Yeah, I doubt this. Sounds like they're probably just burnt out and fed up with Cigna's BS. Mass layoffs, low wages, a clusterfu-k of structural changes, etc etc etc have been shown to demotivate most employees. Stop trying to point the finger at a boogeyman that likely isn't there. Just worry about getting your own job done and speak up when others aren't pulling their weight. The end.
