Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

ANXIETY AND TOXIC CULTURE - ELT WILL HAVE TO ANSWER

Giving my all and dedicating the last nearly 20 years to this company it is sad and horrifying to see the culture take a nosedive.

I've been on anxiety and depression meds, meds to help me sleep, suffered major health issues over the last several years.

We've seen the handwriting on the wall for a while with continual reorgs, different ELT and others 'retiring', continual broad communication going out for positive changes being made, positions, secret projects all going offshore - we see through the BS.

HR and others monitoring these threads trying to get a pulse on us - if you are one of the decision makers or reporting to the decision makers - give them this message:

How do you sleep at night? What you are doing is wrong in every sense of the word. We are not just bodies or numbers - we are human beings with lives, families, emotions - just like you. This madness you've created and are co-signing with will end like lord of the flies - you'll all turn on eachother. You have sacrificed the ones who have given themselves to the mission. In your greed you have built a culture of fear - you've created The Hunger Games.

The only thing that will save this company from going bankrupt (morally) is to clean house from the top down until the last bad apple is gone.

DO THE RIGHT THING AND STOP THIS MADNESS.
at the top levels

I worked for Express Scripts, then Evernorth for many years. It was a company I truly enjoyed working and managers I adored. I was in the top 25% percent and was getting recognition all that time. A year ago, they changed the management and it was he-l for me. I was in a similar position as OP with depression, anxiety, disrupted sleep patterns and other health issues due to the toxic and bullying manager. I QUIT and though my mental peace is back, the job hunt is taxing. Hoping for a break from unemployment soon. It feels good to read about others who are in a similar boat and I decided nothing is greater that my health (mental and physical).

It isn't always as easy as "just quit!" Some families rely on two incomes (or the OP may be the sole income) just to get by and quitting in this job market with no backup is stupid. So stop telling the OP that. If that's all you have to say, keep scrolling and move on.

Totally get that - this particular OP said they've been feeling like this for YEARS. That's plenty of time to find another job especially given how good the job market was a year or so ago

When people raise the concerns be try very openly saying “We are NOT okay”, DC says don’t complain , in fact thank us that we didn’t make it 5 days .
DC, who stopped you? Why not go all in ? Did you ask her before making it 3 days a week ? Why soooooo concerned about us for 5 days?

It’s just more and more BS in this company which was flexible even before COVID.

God knows what happened ! Why are we regressing .

I tried to take FMLA and was told I was unprofessional for giving my team such a short leave time and they will be scrambling. Before my departure I had a nice email sent between me and my manager and director about how inappropriate and disrespectful I was as well, with them sure to leave me taking a leave out of it. How convenient. Keep in mind my mid year was positive and this all of a sudden animosity out of no where.

My manager then said they would not approve me leaving to take FMLA. Technically the week you take before your actual leave is PTO, and my manager said they’d deny the request on workday. They recorded this on WebEx and refuse to share with me of course. However, this is federally protectedd so after letting them know I’d be contacting HR, their tune changed.

But as an FYI, even if you are protected before you leave for FMLA, after that 30 day mark when you return, your head is on the chopping block. Everything my manager has been doing seems extremely retaliatory. I’d much rather be offered severance to leave at this point than have to deal with their pettiness.

Interestingly enough the blow is outlined in the “Daily Easentials” email regarding mental health and vitality:
Employer insight:
Organizational culture and manager behavior are essential in developing a work environment that advances mental health and vitality.

Take FMLA and work on your mental health.

ELT will not have to answer. They are so rich they can buy their way out of anything. They are part of the luxury class that never has to worry, never has to care, and gets whatever they want when they want it. All you can do is find another job, and in the meantime give Cigna as little as you possibly can.

I truly long for those days when Cigna valued its employees and the culture was amazing. I simply do not recognize this company anymore. What the he-l happened? Where is the board of directors? The gaslighting is what takes the cake - they tell us about vitality and the goal of being an employer of choice. Yet, every action and policy change over the last 2-3 years shows they ONLY care about the stock price. We are NOT a okay! Very sad and disgusting!

"I've been on anxiety and depression meds, meds to help me sleep, suffered major health issues over the last several years."

I'm saying this kindly, QUIT!!! You've been having these emotions for SEVERAL YEARS and you haven't quit? Your health is worth more than that.

I appreciate what you're saying. The last couple of years when this madness started in small stages - paying for our internet, FOW, fearing is the next round going to include me. In speaking for myself and many others who have come to me with the same anxieties and health issues as a result. I'm not alone. The last TH when the brave soul who stood up to Cordani from the phone saying, "We (the people, the employees left) ARE NOT OK." THAT said it all. He was sweating up on stage.

You are right that my health (all our health) is worth more than an organization. This craziness has been happening over the last couple of years and my issues were triggered by the company. I'm going to be just fine. I'm trying to demonstrate (and speaking on behalf of others) that we are people and not cattle they can push around like pieces on a chess board. I'm trying to speak to whatever collective conscience there is left. Thank you for your advice, I appreciate your kindness. Wish you were at the top that could wake them up.

You are absolutely right about Reorgs. The amount of reorgs that happen here is insane.

It goes to say that things are never stable here . One cannot thrive in such environments. You need to find another job or you will feel more and more bitter . That’s going to affect your health further . Unfortunately that’s the only way.

Reminding you they don’t care and you are a stepping stone for them to use so they get where they want to go. Also, they anyone threatens the status quo they will be gaslit, blackballed, put on PIP, and straight up abused until they quit or get fired. Literally people stop caring, it’s not worth it. If ur being abused go to HR, that why you’ll get fired faster and can collect. I also tell everybody about what I went through. I’m applying a lot but no luck on the job hunt. I got put on a PIP in the role and need to get TF out of it. I’m sorry for what your going through but really Cigna isn’t worth any of your thoughts and for real, also what they say has nothing to do with you but what they want you to be so you can be included or excluded from things. Doesn’t matter what you do. Good luck and start looking for a new job, Cigna will not change.

What’s sad is that we will all keep talking about it here but nothing’s ever gonna change. They will keep letting people go, move to stupid offshore model which is never gonna work, they might as well start calling people to office, 5 days a week someday.

I wish you a great health OP! thanks for sharing.

This ELT could not care less. Cordani is a billionaire. He didn't make that $$$ caring about his employees. And his minions in their Guccisuits don't seem very concerned for anyone's wellbeing. They're all spewing this b.s. "vitality" campaign, knowing full well that it's their blanket policies and decreased benefits that rob us of our vitality in the first place. They just do not care. Too busy counting their money and st-----g their portfolios.

You take care of you.
