Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Are there plans for us to go back into the office?

Anyone know if there are plans for us to go back into the office at designated weeks and or days? I heard this may be the new office standard but I’ve only heard whispers. I guess if they’re trying to cut back on expenses this move would make no sense to me but I continue to work for here so what do I know…,

Look at depts that don't require staff to "talk to people" - they have a case count that needs to be met per day so they can essentially sign on anytime of the day work until they get their case count and then do whatever for the rest of the day. But instead they ride staff who actually talk to people (members) have calls they can listen to, screens they can see, reports that tell them how many calls they made a day and how long they talked. Utilization has been getting away with this for years. CM is tortured with extreme micromanagement, short staffing and no support from upper leadership -

They adopted a - if you build it, they will come strategy. Maybe they should have asked if anyone wanted to in the first place. They asked us last year about RTO after it was implemented. We also indicated that we thought it was horrible. Didn't care.

Haven't you noticed? The company does soft launches. Big changes get rolled out as options before becoming mandatory. Someone at deliotte probably told them that.

Come up with a better reason than water cooler conversation. No one but execs who want to look high and mighty to each other want to go. Well also their a-s kissing directs. Some orgs are saying to make sure x VP lays eyes on you. For what? Because we have hall monitors now. I was having "water cooler" conversation with another person at the office and a leader in their org saw us. Gave a big suspicion look. Did they expect all water cooler talk to be positive. You need a positive culture first.

Similar to when they took pensions away and said we’ll give a 6% 401k match and donate $500 a year to a retirement HSA, etc. Over a few years, they reduced 401k match and then got rid of Retirement HSA match.

They give free food and have all the training to entice us back. Free food goes away. It's a matter of time till the say 5 days. Gee didn't see that coming. No trust in management.

In our local office the desks are already full with only a few spots left. If they mandated full time return to the office they would need to build out substantially, and I just don't see them doing that. I'm happy to only have to come into the office one day per week, fine with me. Not happy that the free food is going away, but I'd rather have that than more layoffs.

Seeing as now when applying for an internal role there's a new mandatory 50 mile rule and if you live outside of that from a pulse point you wont be considered for the role. We all knew this internally for a while but until Monday when I went to apply for a role this was never asked

Just looking at the current environment and how Elvance is always last to follow it would not surprise me if they start mandating more RTO time. 1-2 days min become 2-3 days min and so on. They want us back in the office there's no denying that and most large companies have shifted back to almost 5 days back in the office. There was a post on here a few weeks ago that really was eye opening to me personally about how the 8/8 rif would help make room for many of the locations that downsized to accommodate more people back more often. So aligning that with the desire to return more often and I totally see this being introduced in the fall and mandated either by EOY or right around beginning of 2025.

Forcing people to go back to the office was always a ploy to get people to quit. Now that people know about the RIFs, nobody is going to quit. They'll just wait for supplemental and unemployment. And this is why you don't hear as much about back to office anymore.
