Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

In case you are new or don't know... HR is not your friend

For those people who think HR is going to protect you, it's likely you are wrong. There could be some instances where an HR outcome benefits you personally but don't be confused, HR is there to protect the company. Filing claims and cases can put a target on your head, and when HR says "retaliation isn't tolerated"... retaliation happens all the time around here. Confidentiality is also a joke. Check with external counsel (if you can), if you have an issue and aren't sure if you should report it to HR or the Ethics Hotline. You should never tolerate illegal behaviors/abuse or unfair treatment just be prepared that the outcome of a reported incident against a manager may not work out in your favor.

I used to work in Conduct Management, who closely partnered with HR on a daily basis. I was repeatedly told that our main mission is always to protect the company first. We had to identify trouble makers and neutralize insider threats.

HR is also there to support the agenda of senior management as cheaply as possible. Fire employees for trumped up reasons rather than pay severance. Actually, middle and lower management is the most vulnerable.

Think about this: When it comes down to you vs the manager, you really think HR is gonna be FAIR and on YOUR side?

Also keep in mind that things you say to HR are NOT confidential, they will tell you the same if you ask them explicitly. I once complained to HR about my manager and the same day was confronted by her about it.

You can have the worst manager who is incompetent, lazy, abrasive, plays favorites etc. but guess what, it is not a violation of company policy or the law. Not much will happen to bad managers. Start plotting your exit, this is not a battle you can win.

"HR is there to protect the company" <--- THIS
This is their sole mission. Act accordingly.
