Just curious what happens if you are not working the day you are supposed to be RIFed. I understand it wouldn’t change the end result, but wondering how that would be handled.

I am on vacation that week. At this point I would gladly take a severance package and a break from the toll working for Anthem has taken on me.
I was at a doctor’s appointment. They tracked me down and forced me to walk out of my appointment to join a call to tell me and several others we were RIFed.
They’ll find you even if you’re hiding under a rock.
A colleague was on PTO. They just waited until they returned.
They will attempt to track you down via phone to deliver the good news. Otherwise, follow up will occur when you return to work.
Well, it happened to at least one person in my department last year. His director called him and delivered the news while he was on vacation. There really isn't a good option because if you aren't given the news immediately, then someone will text you about what happened and you'll be worrying if you are going to be coming back to no job. Personally, I'd rather hear as soon as possible so I can start preparing and networking.
what if you take PTO all of August?
Brings back memories of my co worker who was RIF’d while on PTO to get married. They met with her the following
Monday instead.
