Update Talent Profile in Workday

Another interesting thing happened at CDW today. Not sure if anyone else got it, but I got an email from HR that said ACTION REQUIRED: Update Your Talent Profile. Apparently, your “Talent Profile” contains all of your education, work experiences, certifications, trainings, development plans, etc. It’s basically a resume. There is even a section that says “Career - consider what roles you’re interested in working in one day, Travel - share willingness and interest in traveling for work, and Relocation - share willingness & interest in relocating for work”. Combine that with the minimal meetings we’ve had as of late, the absence of any real strategy, and our poor financials and I would bet the company is looking to do either layoffs or a massive reorg. Additionally, going to work everyday just feels different than it was even a year ago. There is less enthusiasm and seems to be less momentum across the board. I just feel like the writing is on the wall and I should start applying elsewhere. Problem is nobody is really hiring and the jobs that are available have 300 applicants. We’re in for some tough times ahead I think and all of this make me feel very uneasy.

Having said what I just said, that doesn't mean layoffs could be looming. ITS-DV has been a mess for a couple of years. Those not in that dept don't know how bad it's been. I know of a few folks in DV that moved out last year and a couple fo them just quit 2-3 months ago, couldn't handle the disorganization...another 2 folks in DV just resigned recently. This is top of a handful of good folks already chopped in the January cuts. The acquisitions made over the past 3 years and then subsequent integration have been awful. A number of folks from the companies that CDW acquired and moved into DV have jumped ship.

Lots of folks are hanging in there because the job market is challenging & tight this year otherwise lots more would jump sooner.

Yeah it probably means nothing - just a new system transition providing everyone an opportunity to update their profile. Frankly how many people really kept it up to date in the prior old system. I'm familiar with Workday at another company and I liked it with how it was implemented - it housed everything including your profile/address, Fed/State/W2 tax info, pay info/invoices, current job title/profile, dependents info, benefits elections information, PTO balance, tuition reimbursement, etc.

It was convenient to have it housed in one area in Workday - versus a hodge podge of 3-5 different portals/systems at CDW to get to all of this stuff.

This is exactly what was in PeopleSoft and is used for the PMP and TRP processes. Those same exact fields / questions have been around for years. CDW just moved to Workday from Peoplesoft and some items transferred over while some need you to go in and make updates. There is nothing "behind" the ask besides a system change that occurred which there were emails about and optional trainings for it.

I would say this is a little bit from column A and column B.

While it is true this information did not transition from PeopleSoft into WorkDay, the textbook purpose of talent profiles is well defined. On one hand, it is useful for succession planning, career growth, and workforce redeployment. On the other hand, it gives a single pane of glass for HR to identify redundancies, gaps, or skills that no longer align with business goals.

We had all of this in PeopleSoft / Taleo as well. Not everything transferred over to WorkDay during the migration so they want everyone to have a chance to go on and update their information. It's not that serious. It's actually a good thing. Chill, Bubba.

Tin foil hat alert. This is because of workday and talent reviews. It even says it in the email. Chill bro.

I wouldn't get too concerned about this email, I was told that it's due to the data not being transferred over to Workday and this is the standard template that we get with that product. So you need to fill it all in yourself so HR has it on record and you can also use it for the self reviews with your manager. You should have also gotten the email for a mid-year review template - same thing.
