"Just get back to work and stop thinking about layoffs. Do a good job and you'll fine."

This is a huge load of cr-p. The last two years some of the highest performers were the ones cut.

“Do a good job and you'll [be] fine.”

In previous staff reductions, people said Ford did not follow its own procedure for informing employees that they needed to improve performance before their employment was terminated.

This means that performance was not a consideration.

Just get back to work and stop thinking about layoffs. Do a good job and you'll fine.

Ford is a great place to work. Expect some amazing engineering in the new vehicle lineup.

Not seeing any signs that 7-22-2024 is "the day".

Given the recent post from the individual who was lowballed and had is offer rescinded...I wouldn't be surprised if they're preparing to layoff "underperformers" in the upper range of pay bands and replacing them with those willing to work for less...talent is always your biggest cost...

”… the mid-year PR process is still several weeks away…”

For the last big staff reduction in June ‘23, PRs weren’t a factor.

@lhd+1twJdnzR it is sad, if you knew they were going to kick you out at 20+, would have been as loyal? probably not. as lee iacocca said, if i knew they were going to sell out chrysler to mercedes, i wouldn't have worked so hard. of course that is just a story, real workers work hard because it's their thing.

I agree that there won't be too many...if any. Reason being is that I don't think they can afford to lose any more talent especially in HTHD positions. That being said, a bad review might trigger something, not sure what. But Didn't they say that they frowned on rating yourself high? Shouldn't you be below target on something? Confusing sometimes. But hey...if I'm going to get let go and performance starts to not matter because of salary / needed attrition...then so what. It might end up being a blessing. Either way it's a good idea to be ready for whatever they decide.

@aij...I am one of those you term 20+ in dis-service...why do you have the issue with us making a living to support our families, put them through college and invest for retirement? 20+ years working is not much for a professional career and could be as much as 40 years working until retirement at 65 if you hire in after graduating college about 21 yrs old. Are you jealous that you do not have a pension and I do? Do you realize you will be in this situation sometime?

"My hunch is that instead of offering buy outs to get rid of people with pension and or "old" folks (20+ in dis-service) a bad mid-term PR will be the trigger to have those one leaving on their own with more / less some diluted dignity, instead of being fired or demoted or sidelined."

Does this mean PIP's?

More likely after PR feedback is given. Per Ford Blue VP's directive, 15% of GSR MUST get Below Target mid-term assessment. Meaning in a section of 7 people, one MUST get the boot, regardless if his/her performance is equivalent across the section, which implies that LL6 will be BIASed against one individual that more likely will be ask to leave by end of August or face disciplinary action i.e. Low-Performance Training.
Of course, those with 20+ years (if there are still any) will be the main target, according to LL4 in charge of FCG's, "no way young (inexperienced) engineers would ever get a Low Performance (regardless of their true performance), they are the future of Ford"
My hunch is that instead of offering buy outs to get rid of people with pension and or "old" folks (20+ in dis-service) a bad mid-term PR will be the trigger to have those one leaving on their own with more / less some diluted dignity, instead of being fired or demoted or sidelined.
Whoever is running HR is a student of Machiavelli, avoiding future lawsuits since BAD mid-term PR's can be used for firing w/o fearing Class Action lawsuits for seniority / age discrimination.
Layoffs were "subtly" announced a this year UnSE All Hands, it was disguised as to find the right workforce balance to meet future workload. In fact there is a lot of hirings happening as we speak but for those already in with 20+ years in service their time is up

”… there might not be any layoffs this year…”

Layoffs look very bad politically, so unless a whole bunch of other companies start axing staff, Don expect cuts until after the November elections.

We had a few voluntarily retire after 30+ years. Looks like they're waiting to see who else will be retiring.

I'm thinking that there might not be any layoffs this year unless Ford has a bad quarter financially and they need to appear to be making an effort to reduce costs. Layoffs are disruptive and not good for morale.

No inside information, but the mid-year PR process is still several weeks away from completion. If they are going to make cuts this year and want to tie it to performance, I wouldn't expect anything to happen until August or September.
