Reflecting on the bravery displayed at town hall today

To all those who attended and asked questions AND spoke up, thank you. To hear that pathological liar David Cordani finally get caught out for what he is and for someone to raise their concerns is so beyond brave. Collective action over time will improve the situation, and while they will likely retaliate against Lydia, we need to continue the fight and express how angry everyone is. In time this will force these lazy bloated folks in C-suite to resign finally or be outright forced to end their bad policies. Make this a better place for us, for our customers and patients who have to go through this revolting corrupt system.

I’m still remote. But there are clearly lots of other people who feel the situation has deteriorated dramatically in the past two years, based on the town hall q&a. I see all the outsourcing, the layoffs, the nonsensical FOW policies, the cutbacks in benefits like tuition reimbursement (I was fully funded for my graduate degree years ago), and I see a company trading long term reputation for short term stock prices while they are hurting their employees. This is not about me. It’s about the direction I see this company heading.

So basically what you're saying is, things were better for ME PERSONALLY in the past. That doesn't mean they were better for everyone. I was required to work in office 5 days a week, so the 3 day with 2 anchor day policies is much better for my family and me.

Yes, we know how a corporation works and we all own stock. I have been with Cigna over 15 years and somehow in the past the company was able to provide great employee benefits, avoid being ranked dead last in customer service, and still satisfy its obligations to shareholders. They are able to do multiple things all at once because I have seen them do it. Now they are choosing not to prioritize the employees while giving lip service to the values I mentioned below. And people are calling them on it.

It IS about stock prices. They shouldn't need to spell it out for you, it is literally the LEGAL DUTY of a corporation. Did you guys not know this?

Sure, but you can’t have it both ways. If you claim to be an “employer of choice” and to care about “vitality” and the “health, wellbeing, and sense of security” of your customers and employees, then you can’t be about stock prices to the exclusion of those things. If it’s all about stock prices, then say so and stop pretending to care about your employees and customers.

Was she right? Maybe from an employee happiness/comfort perspective, but the number one duty of publicly traded corporations isn’t to prioritize employee comfort above all.

Well I appreciate the bravery, the delivery didn’t do the first asker any favors. Telling the CEO of a fortune 15 company that it’d be better run if they changed a policy isn’t how to change his mind.

It truly is incredibly brave to speak up in these town halls. My heart would literally be pounding out of my chest. I hope this causes a snowball effect and this becomes the norm for town halls— I mean, that’s LITERALLY what a company town hall is for. It’s not meant to be a corporate jargon word salad or parade of what we’re doing. It’s for the EMPLOYEES to use their VOICES because it’s the ONLY time we have to speak directly to leadership. I feel like they should be giving WAY more time for Q&As and Comments, but we all know that ain’t gonna happen.
