I am hoping and praying that I’m on the RIF list. I’ve been miserable here for years but the “golden handcuffs” have kept me. A few months of severance pay is just what I need.

If only. I've never seen someone volunteer for a RIF to save someone else be successful. The decision is usually long made at the point you can have an honest conversation with your boss (because even if you were to say that you know there's a RIF coming and want to volunteer, they have to deny it or risk their own heads), and has to do with the dollar sign over every person's head, as instructed by people outside your team.
I have multiple examples, but most recently, in the last big RIF, we had a dual income empty nester who volunteered, but he didn't earn enough, so a widowed parent of three, arguably more vital to the team (even according to this guy), was the one let go. Along with a dozen others. He still has survivor's guilt, though that may be short-lived with this one.
That RIF cut us off at the knees (it was nearly 20% of our team), piling more work onto everyone's plates, and this one promises to be even steeper for us.
Don't pick me please!! I like my job...although stressful at times, it is manageable and I am on a really good team. Good team support, good pay and benefits and plan to retire from here on my terms...if this goes as planned. Starting over is a great deal more stress than maintaining what I have currently.
Wishing you all the best...as we go through this together.
Please don’t pick me. I truly enjoy my job but I will be sure to utilize all the learning resources I can
Be careful what you wish for unless your ready financinally. It is not easy on the other side of the fence. Hold your head up, be true to yourself. I planned on going out on my own ( retire) in a few years they got , but I'm ok financially. I may go back to work if I can get income comparable to what I making
Don't pick me!!! I hope to work here until I retire on my terms. Starting over is VERY VERY stressful!! My job supports our family, makes mortgage payments and puts food on the table etc...
To those who want to be rif'd...all the best to you in your future endeavors. Thanks for your time.
I would just caution to be careful what you wish for as there are a ton of people who are looking for jobs and not having any luck - plus you need to truly understand the severance package as it's called "supplemental " because it is mixed with your state unemployment benefits. But if you truly want to get laid off, do what other replies have suggested and let your manager know that if there are any pending RIFs coming you are willing to be let go.
You could talk to your manager and save someone their job that they really need to take care of their family
While this company has turned into a complete sh-t show and is going downhill fast, don’t be so quick to want to be RIF’d. the job market su-ks right now and other companies are also doing layoffs. Lots of qualified candidates for very few positions. This company su-ks but I put up with it due to work from home and the 5 weeks of PTO per year. A lot of companies don’t offer those perks any longer.
Be careful what you wish for. I wouldn’t wish this cr-p on my worst enemy.
Why would you want to work here? It's a hole
I hope to work here until I retire on my terms.
They will not ask who wants out. That would put the employee in a position of power. If they offered packages to the employees. They would loose 50% of us. I do not know anyone who wants to work here.
It would be nice if they were more open and just asked who wants out.
