Yes, it is a tough job market, and tbh the company knows that and that is why they can make these sorts of changes now.
The smart play is to wait it out, hopefully past the elections. Once it’s known which old, wrinkly man will be the president, then companies can move forward with their respective plans and there is more certainty in the job market.
Also, you may be able to be able to benefit from a layoff, assuming there is one coming. You make things easy for them by leaving now. That’s what they want
Job market is real tough out there - just look at Glassdoor Bowl and Reddit. There has been tons of layoffs out there and the market has been saturated with strong candidates. Add to that - I know of companies hiring more international workers.
Look up the news - UKG just laid off 14% of staff (so 2200 workers cut) the day before July 4th holiday - companies have become ruthless.
But by all means, work on brushing up your resume to keep it current and polished.
