Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Just a reminder

For all of those who hate it here, it's much easier to find a job when you already have one. If you're unhappy here, start looking.

Now this is a great post and an adaptation of your experience. It's great that you identified what was making you unhappy. I would argue that even when there is 8k other's looking for a job, what sets you apart is who you know at that point. Maintaining a strong circle will always serve you well especially when the market is saturated with job seekers. Someone might be having the time of their career at Ford...AND THATS OK guys...it really is. What isn't ok is staying somewhere you know is toxic for you and not thinking you can do anything about it. I don't think anyone in Ford management would disagree that if you really don't want to be there you should move on. People are people at the end of the day and even though some get distracted by politics and ego, they know damn well that unhappy employees are likely under performing employees as well.

I am surprised at the hate this post is receiving. I certainly wouldn't consider it a boot licking post. Though I did laugh when I read that... And to have it followed by the Ron Burgundy quote was perfect.

I was SIRP'd in August 2022. I had been miserable here for years - but never believed that I could do better than 'Ford'. So I just stayed here - and stayed miserable.

When I was let go, I was devistated. The loss of primary income is devistating. But within a few days - literally days - family and friends told me that I seemed happier than I had in years. And it was true. I was happy to be out of the garbage that I had been living in at Ford.

So that's my comment to whoever is reading. If you are unhappy at Ford - I hope that you search for opportunities where you can be happier. The sooner the better. For your own sake.

And it was a lot harder to find a job when 8,000 people were let go at the same time. All of the sudden the job market was fludded with people just like me.

But I was fortunate and found something where I was genuinely happier.

The times when this may not apply are for people who are approaching retirement levels and have 'golden handcuffs'. For those people, I say 'stay strong' and good luck.

Seasoned workers have likely been burned many times by corporate malfeasance. They tend to be critical thinkers, which most managers don't want because their goal is to expedite short term gains (and be gone long before the long-term pain shows up).

I had a few interviews myself. I failed one of them, was in the "short list" for most of them, and the one position I could get was offering me less salary than I have now. All in all, most of the jobs I find are paying less than what I get now.

I think one of the issues I may be facing is ageism, and I completely understand it. It is better to hire someone with plenty of experience, but still able to work for 20 years more at the company, that hire an old fa-t that may be gone/retired in a few years.

I told my wife I'll continue working on my skills, I'll stay at Ford until something better appears (if), and focus on $$, since at this point my professional career is fading anyway.

I gave the middle finger to F'd up Ford last year and started looking seriously for a job. I used vacation days to travel for interviews and was able to find a job in less than 6 weeks. It's a year later and the grass is greener on the other side, less stress, winning company, real promotion opportunities and more pay. If you are not happy, I highly recommend moving on.
