Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Where is Imperial’s CCS

Lots of talk and no action.

Mr. DW, Shell has started their Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project in Edmonton, called Polaris. Just in case you didn’t know.

My question is, you talk about “Green” actions, where is your CCs project?

😆 shell also had another CCS called quest 2012-2013. Shell starts and stops these projects all the time depending on the state of politics in the company and how much negative publicity they get from the press when they get caught. As they say, there is nothing wrong with doing questionable or illegal things, just don't be stupid enough to get caught.
CCS is not just environmentally UNfriendly, it is an outright money loser that runs on subsidies. There are a hundred more cost effective environment solutions, solar cells or using co2 as chemical feedstock and convert it to something useful using surplus renewable energy etc. CCS is just like putting it in a very expensive tank and hoping it doesn't leak out ever especially during calamity in a very expensive way, essentially trying to sweep it under the rug.
Anyone doing CCS is just making things worse and it doesn't do anything for the environment.
Just cheaper to subsidize EV or use the co2 to produce methanol USING renewable electricity which is installed with subsidies on large scale.
CCS is one of the biggest environment and financial disasters that Alberta will see to Greenwash its oil industry optics.
If they want, they can also use lots of solar electricity in oilsands and use it to create steam and just avoid the need to burn lots of natural gas and produce carbon emissions saving tones of natural gas for other uses in the process.

They all got paused in Canada because they are expensive and don’t compete on ROI compared to normal return projects, even with govt subsidies. And who knows what the next govt will do.
When we say we’re committed to net zero it should come with an asterisk*- only if the project meets our hurdle rates.
