Also sorry for us staying for now. Consequences will fall on us. We will be expected to pick up after those who were laid off. There will be mess and chaos. And none of us will get anything for taking on more work. Best case scenario is to be lucky to get laid off at the first next opportunity.

I guess if you have high years of service maybe the severance is worth waiting for. I had 3+ years in October and the severance was only 2 weeks pay. No reason to delay that job search; start looking right away for a less toxic company with better managers. If you know you’ll be leaving you can save vacation to be paid out later… but keep an eye on payroll, I had to ask for corrections for both vacation payout and COBRA stipend.
Assuming you're a US worker, polish up your resume because, at best, you have 12 months until the end of July 2025. Those who survived will be expected to do the work of several people for the exact same salary.
