Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

The writing is on the wall (US folks only)

The vast majority of folks affected were US while India and the Philippines weren't touched at all. The whole "re-hire 800 new folks" is bullsh-t because all of those jobs will go to India guaranteed.

I know of teams that were decimated with years of MF/OT knowledge flushed down the drain. Meanwhile, the armies of overseas workers didn't lose one person. That's a fact.

If you're a US OT'er, it's time to go. Leave now before next June/July because if your team isn't making Mark B.'s wallet fat, you'll be kicked to the curb. Worse case, ride it out for the next 6 months, polish up the resume, and collect your PTO/severance while sliding into a new gig.

The CEO talked about the four centers of excellence.
Romania
Bangalore
Philippines
oh... and yeah Canada!

USA??? Fack NO!

IMHO, this is a test to see can they fire USA based staff and replace them with much lower cost new hires in Bangalore and the Philippines.

If yes'ish... round two is coming up!

Bottom line... the CEO's credability and job is on the line. How can he save money now???

LAYOFF high wage employees in the US..

That is simply not correct. Over the last couple of weeks:

  • 95 sacked in the Ukraine (entire site)
  • 65 in Shanghai China
  • At least 10 in Israel
  • A few in Germany

And as far as I heard there were more in other sites. The Indian sites are the only safe ones.

The CEO went to India recently and spent a sh-t ton on money on the party. Even had a concert.

Why? Because Mark likes cheap a-s labor and wants other Indians in India to think his company is the shiznit and join.

Average salary for a software engineer in India is $30k USD. And that is doing very well there.

Compare that to a engineer in California at $160k-$230k

Many R&D teams complain about the quality of work coming from less experienced Indians. Plus if you need them on PST times, they will be working graveyard shift in Bangtown, which means you wont get the best candidates for the job.

An old saying in the US, you get what you paid for..

I agree for the most part, but are you sure nobody outside the US was affected?
