Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Completely illogical choices on who to lay off

Who makes the decision on who to lay off? Can we fire that person/people? Why are we losing some of the highest performers and retaining some of the lowest? People with the most experience are gone. Why would any rational person get rid of somebody with so much value for the company?

For the logic, just imagine a cost number given. Take all employees in areas that are not set as off-limits for some reason. Sort the Excel spreadsheet by employee cost from highest to lowest, then start cutting until you get to the number your respective group is expected to "contribute."

Easier to RIF more during performance time if they are all the lower performers.
