Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Left Exxon for more money, better morale, WFH/flex work

Jobs are out there, don’t fret.

Couldn’t be happier. I made 30% more, WFH, enjoy more fulfilling work, and positive work environment instead of the depressing slog of Campus circa 2021-current.

Happy for you OP. Motivating to many of us on here who are working to leave. Ignore those who seem to have a victim mentality and take no action other than to constantly complain.

@3biu oh wow, another information no one cares about. Might as well post your cool life story

Glad you have flexible and work life balance of staying in a layoff site. Time we'll spent. You've won 🤡

@3ulj LoL you’re just mad because I’m one less person you can control and/or you don’t have the skills (or the connections) to land a well-paid WFH job.

Call me whatever you want, but I’m basically semi-retired and I’m not even 40. Enjoy the commute to/from EMHC bruh. Hope they make it worthwhile for you.

@3sxq+1tiKJ2MP big talk. WFH home for 10 years and STILL coming to this site. The word starts with the letter "L" and ends with "r".

@3ouo Been WFH for almost 10 years bruh. Also have some side hustles and passive income. When you have the right skills, you can write your own ticket (within reason).

My guess is that you’re either 1) jealous, or 2) a serial micromanager. Either way you’re wrong about WFH, and which jobs are most exposed to outsourcing.

I'll give you 6 months before you post "looking for work" status at linkedin

@2xvr This has been debunked several times. Here it is again:

Outsourcing to low-cost centers began in the late 1990s, and predates remote work as we currently know it. There is no correlation between showing up at an office daily and job security. Just ask the thousands of tech workers who complied with RTO orders in 2023 and got fired anyway.

Side note: if your job can be done in a low-cost center, then it likely doesn’t require a lot of skill to begin with.

Just remember if you have a job where you can work from home in any industry that it will eventually be replaced with a low cost worker overseas or AI.

@OP Did you stay in O&G or did you move to a different industry?

You can definitely find better culture (no forced ranking) and better work life balance (hybrid, 9/80s) jobs out there, but higher pay (30% more) could be hard especially if you’ve been ranked excellent or above. For high flyers their compensation is definitely in the top quintile range of the industry. You could make more if you go into consulting and tech, but those jobs are not easy to find nowadays. I’ve been ranked consistently in the middle and I do not want to leave O&G/Houston, so I only found jobs that pay 10% more.

@1gvl

A better response would have been: "Cool story, bro."

Missed opportunity - PIP for you!
