Thread regarding CDW layoffs

What is with the management changes up top?

Directors and VPs etc? Anyone else sense this or feel nervous about things? I love working here but things have felt off . I guess we will what happens after Q2 numbers.

Low hanging fruit for increasing operational eficiency is middle layer people at least across the board. According to bloomberg January, United Parcel Service Inc. said it would save more than $1 billion by slashing 12,000 manager jobs. Citigroup Inc. aims to eliminate 20,000 roles over the next several years, slimming down to eight management layers from 13. And more might be coming; mentions of “operational efficiency” in the US hit the highest on record this earnings season, according to an analysis by Morgan Stanley.

Non-tech degree or no degree with no prior tech experience is cheap and these job seekers have very low expectations. CDW prefers certifications over education and experience. Titles like manager, engineer, analyst or administrator are bestowed upon anybody with a pulse. Just check out CDW co-workers on LinkedIn and compare their education, prior experience and current roles at CDW. Their only technical experience is from CDW or one of their previously acquired companies. No wonder other tech companies are reluctant to hire CDW employees. Low hanging fruit rots on the vine and spoils the whole harvest.

It’s pretty sad. Seriously not one of CDW’s Sr. executive leadership can talk to a customer about anything relevant beyond some Wall Street tech-pop terminology and almost no sales leadership can either. It’s completely embarrassing to bring any of them to a sales call and you will probably lose the sale if you do. So for high level customer executive meetings we can call on Conor, or Stephenie Haggopian, or Phil Taylor or Andy Cadwell, or Casey Bleeker when they were here, but those folks are spread so thin that they can’t usually go on the call, or they’ve left CDW for greener pastures. We need new and better leaders.

Just look at the stock prices… sooner or later, the excuses for poor sales and the overall lack of a strategy will result in shareholders demanding change at the top and I’ll be applauding. Non-tech people shouldn’t be at the top of a tech company.

I envy you. My manager who was promoted to director (then demoted to sr manager); such a bad manager history. He was historically part of Conagra ets management that was a laid off pocket of rot before they left for hq relocation. I wish companies would track real histories of managers the way they do for front line grunts. Anyway this manager is overweight and a nightmare for anyone not part of his special clique. He plays favorites enjoys abusing nice modest people; And is a slippery greased pig when avoiding getting caught.
