Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Next week, or next month, or in August?

My money is on by the end of July. Now that the train station is open, that money needs to be recouped.

And things are not looking good from a car sales perspective. These numbers they are trumping (up X% over last year) are bunk. They are comparing against a year ago when we were still struggling with inventory due to supply chain shortages.

Drive by any Ford dealer. Rows of unsold F150s, Broncos (we can't give them away right now) and Rangers (no one is buying because they want Mavericks).

It's about to get ugly. When you have Lawler telling investors that the inventory is a concern, well you know it's worse than they are letting on.

While we get election Day off now, I think a lot of us salaried workers will have more than that off unfortunately......

More Ford acts of stupidity - brining in S House from Lucid as CFO!!!??????? Lucid is a financial mess - Lucid had a net loss of $685 million and revenue of $173 million in the first quarter of 2024, and that the company is continuing to burn through cash. As of March 2024, Lucid's total debt was $2.42 billion - thats not good!!!!! S House is not capable of running a small startup let alone a sinking titanic like FoMoCo!!!!!
Another flunkie to add to the list - Field, Stern, etc

Ford is a mess and getting messier. Farley is about to get shown the door with an insanely undeserved ' golden parachute ' $$$$$eperation package. It's obvious Lawler will get to fill the CEO seat as he desperately su-ks as many investor d*ck$ as possible to boost the stock price; which Farley FAILED miserably at attempting as did his predessor Hackket ( the id--t ). So what do have? A poorly organized family that has cycled through 4 CEOs in little over a decade ( compare to what M Barra has accomplished at the helm of GM!!! )
Some of the best talent being cut as a result of Hackett's " not-so Smart Redesign " and executed by Farley with Boston CONsulting's help. Amazing to see those that were cut in 2022 landing positions at NVIDIA, Alphabet, Microsoft, Tesla - a former colleague who I greatly admired is doing extraordianry things at NBC Universal. Meanwhile Fprd is left with fakes and flunkies. Field hasnt delivered. EV programs are cancelled or delayed. Partnerships haven't happened, hmmm what ever became of the big VW-Ford partnering!!!!! Subscriptions??????? LOLOL Never went anywhere. Canopy???? Billions lost. Whats left is the worst product portfolio in automotive, a Detroit based facility ( MCS ) that no one wants to work at or even asked for at the expense of shareholders. Poorly designed and engineered vehicles leading the industry in recalls. Where's the accountability? Layoffs? There should be terminations starting with C - Suite! Bombick to lead quality???? What has he accomplished? He should be lead right out the door! Lincoln???? Another loser, designed by an Arnold Schwarzenegger wannabee and a team that have no sense of luxury - look at their ( lack ) of accomplishments, why are they employed?????
So what's next? BF knows time to get to get rid of Farley and Lawler has to cut more costs - easiest way is to cut workforce, it's already happening in EU, more NA jobs will be outsourced to India or Mexico and thos eof us that are left will once again have to do more with less. When does this happen??? With performance rating being pushed out more than likely Q3. It's about to get nasty folks, do your homework, Blackrock, State Street, etc all released memos on how poorly Ford is expected to perform especially with no products and a loss of confidence in leadship.
Thanks for allowing the rant.

None of this has been discussed in any recent Town Halls.

You are just sowing seeds of doubt and fear amongst the colleagues.

Ford is profitable with a winning EV portfolio.

We should be talking about when we can move into the Trainstation offices.

Wrong.. Pushing them until after the layoff means several thousand midyears that won't need Radical Candor.......

With mid-years being pushed to near the end of Q3 I'm thinking separations will also not occur until then.

This is a good post. Reasoned conjecture. The OP is trying to read signs and make sense of them.

This situation is not unique for Ford although the company did lean more on EV adoption compared to other OEMs. This is an affordability problem. We have only 1-2x gateway products which are affordable (Maverick and low trim Escape). Since we are no longer a full line vehicle manufacturer, as people pivot to products with a better value proposition, we are losing market share. A low cost EV is not the answer either as it will never be a gateway product…

He's right, though.

This site is nothing more than a soap opera for a small group of Ford employees or former employees.

And they are only vocal online. Because you bet you paycheck - well, not the ones who were laid off because they may not have paychecks - that these people have RTO'd and are toeing the company line and kissing up just like always.

@OP. I think we'll have layoffs this year. The company counts as "sold" the vehicles sent to the dealers, but I am guessing the metrics of what is actually sold to the public are probably so bad, that no one talks about it. I am sure the C suite has presented those numbers in the best light, like using our worst years for comparison. But the lots are full, and we are not selling much. That's why when I read about the "push for quality", delaying a couple of months the new vehicles, I didn't think about quality (after all, our quality has gone down with the current CEO), but as an excuse to delay more vehicles in the already saturated dealers, and more chances to move older inventory.

Regarding when layoffs are going to happen, IDK. My guess is as good as anyone here. However, I predicted some time back that it would not happen before August/September, around two months after the personnel task is done, since in my experience, things at Ford move slowly, including layoffs. We haven't heard neither any gossip about it, and the closer we get to the pink slip day, the more rumours are floating around.

Another point to consider, is that we may not have a big layoff, but a bunch of smaller ones for the rest of the year. Who knows? Just be prepared.
