Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Folks RIF'ed - One Question

It may seem irrelevant, but I am curious about one thing:

While working at Elevance, did you ever contribute to the Elevance PAC (Political Action Committee)? Please respond with one of the following choices below:

  1. Yes, regular contributor
  2. Yes, occasional contributor
  3. Yes, once
  4. No, I never contributed

Thanks!

My personal answer is D) No, I never contributed

I contribute either for similar reasons to everyone else. I don't get it. I don't get any PAC. They shouldn't be necessary or legal.

That said a couple things to note, the PAC is really like a couple people. It's not SLT. It's not fun on company dollars. The ONLY way the PAC is funded is with associate dollars. If you don't want the PAC to exist, don't give any money.

And seriously. Of all the things involved in RIF, your PAC contribution doesn't matter. The few PAC associates are just as likely be laid off. It's funny to me that anyone thinks our systems are sophisticated enough to make decisions based on actual data. None of the systems talk to each other. So even if we wanted to be shady and of course we do, we can't because we don't want to pay for things unless they're flashy and marketable by digital.

Why the heck would I have anything to do with the PAC? It is patently ridiculous to ask employees to help further a fascist health policy.

This company's superpac has lobbied with 14 million just so far this year. Think about that. The next highest healthcare company is half that.

  1. And I'm at such a low level, they have a he-l of a lot of nerve even having me on the distribution list, especially when I haven't gotten a raise higher than 1.5% -- even with a promotion -- since 2017.

I wouldn't contribute anyway, though, since I don't believe in bribing government officials and don't think it should even be legal.

It's a scam! I think Gail sends those emails out late at night from a dark room in her basement.

I contributed some very small amounts -lime a few dollars - but got RIF'd anyways. And I totally did it to be the 'good team player' but it wasn't enough

I declined years ago and they started taking the money out of my paycheck anyway. When I realized it I canceled and made them refund every penny.

While I am safe from this round of RIFs I apparently had been contributing a little every paycheck and the minute they required return to office, I email and cancelled my contribution- and I told them exactly why. Thankfully I’m still safe…. For now…
