Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Marketing Roles Only in Frisco TX

Former TIAA here. I was laid off when Micky made her first massive reorg back in 2022. That said, 2 new marketing roles were posted to the career site. I submitted my application. Today, a recruiter contacted me and said the following:

Thank you for your recent application online for the above referenced open positions! These positions will be in our Frisco, TX office. Do you plan to relocate on your own to that area? They won’t offer a permanent remote work option nor any relocation financial assistance.

Quite frankly I was surprised considering that marketing has individuals in Iselin, NJ, NYC and Charlotte.

Anyway, just wanted to share

True statements. Where else can you make $500k and do nothing with accountability

Left the firm at a Level 8PL with a 40% bonus. Start at the firm at level 5ic with 20% bonus.

I was never even close to a 40% bonus, but I'm sure my incompetent, but still over-confident boss still misses theirs. Worst, most destructive manager I've ever experienced. Being on a functional team is great but the amount of reorgs can ki-l that at any moment.

Sad truth. I will miss my bonus of 40%

As a former employee, I'll tell you the one thing that has been tempting...the easy money. You see in hindsight, you forget how miserable the culture is. But, you remember the insane bonuses and unheard of retirement contributions for work that has no actual accountability tied to it. Trust me, there is not easier money to be made anywhere. Once you get past the money, there's nothing redeeming about that place.

Why would you want to go back? I’d rather tend bar or clean septic tanks than work for them again.

As someone what was layoff because of micky newest reorg for 6+ one since she was hired. I would run for your life until she get fired with T. 🙏🏽🙏🏽
But by then the whole company would be sold off.

Okay I'm going to ask an honest question. What in the world would possess you to want to work here right now? I wouldn't touch this company until there is a new leadership team. You're going to be rolling the dice everyday on potentially getting fired.

This is the current situation. All postings are for India, Texas, few in Charlotte, and wealth has roles throughout the country as needed.

They have been favoring hiring roles in Frisco over Charlotte and others the last few years it’s not new.

Internally or externally, even if the posting lists other cities Frisco is preference. Charlotte and NYC are at “max capacity” plus they have to hire/fill a specific amount of roles (2500 I think) in the new Frisco building either via relocation from Denver/Jacksonville or new hires within Texas to get their tax benefits and whatnot. The ones who moved from Frisco/Lewisville in Wave 1 last month or in future waves from those cities don’t count.

Yes. 95% of all opportunities are now being allocated for Frisco.
