Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

At this point, just lay me off.

I can't pretend that I care anymore.
The cycle is "do an LR, refocus the team's goals, meet or exceed those goals, get hit with another LR, try to figure out how to do more with less, refocus the team's goals, meet or exceed those goals, get hit with another LR"... on and on forever.

Our teams can't focus on goals if they are worried about getting let go every 6 months.
And they do hit a goal, what does it matter anyway? There is no incentive.
I am burned entirely out. I am tired of watching my back AND doing a great job.

Figure out how to run a business, would you Chuck? Enough already.

The dirty ’secret’ - surely can’t be secret anymore - odds those awards are bought by the companies struggling. There are certain cultures that like to show off they are the best - others just know that they can be the best by not shouting stupid sh*t from the rooftops.

The former are in charge at cisco, have been for a while.

My ‘senior’ leadership layers have been brown nosing and kissing a-s somewhere - they know who they are. They’ve been b*tch slapped from one priority to the next. And so basically they’ve been working on their side businesses (managing houses, airbnbs and renovations) while making our lives miserable as they can’t hold a candle to the ever changing demands.

Why do you need 3 layers of mgmt for a team of less than 15, is it 10 now? All they have done is helicopter managerisms while trying to save their behinds.

I agree 💯 percent! I am so absolutely burned out, and I am pleased to say that I will be affected by the LR this week.

No leader worth 2 cents sees repetitive layoffs as a way to build and grow a great company. The “Left Behind” are shell shocked and just go through the motions waiting for the next wave of “tributes” to be taken out. How this place ever thinks it is on “the best places to work” list is beyond me.

Cisco leadership at all levels are mentally ill and abu-sive otherwise they would not be leaders. Cisco is the worst place for employees mental and physical health. You are lucky if you get laid off and get out of this toxic workplace or mental institution.

Take control of your life. Make a decision, instead of having it made for you. Your future self will be mentally much better off — and you will no doubt be stronger for it. Don’t give them the power. Take it for yourself and LIVE!

Start to support Russia openly in chats and document all your mistreatment, in conjunction with your above average performance. then when they lay you off for “unrelated” or bullsh-t reasons, hit them with your proof and you’ll get a package

Resign is not smart, you will not able to get UI because of it. When the boat is sinking better shift your focus to your future rather than worry about Cisco.

Layoffs are the norm in the tech industry and Cisco is no exception. Meta, Google, Amazon, etc are all in the same boat. Apple might be the outlier that cuts less frequently.

Point is, if you haven't been affected yet in your career, expect to be affected at one point and don't take it personally.

For the past few years I see we did reduce great # of engineers, very few managers let go and got replacement in a matter of few weeks or no gaps. What we can do as an engineer? Just relax, nothing you can do. If you speak out your concern eventually they will get you. If you can not lick the boots, just stay low. Eat free food as often as you can. Enjoy the goods and ignore the work situation.

If not on LR, just resign. Your psychologist and mental health will thank you. 🙏

Hey look I hear you. We’re in a competitive marketplace. And we have to focus our resources on growth segments like AI. We’re market leaders in that space. And we’ll continue to be. But to make that happen we’re gonna have to cut 5k jobs.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have a tee time at 10 followed by drinks at the clubhouse. Get back to work peons.

Well said, I feel the same exact way on my team right now. I didn’t realize how much this stuff is actually stressing me out until recently. It just builds up over time, and I’ve completely lost all confidence in my ability to have any meaningful impact at Cisco.
