Seems like this has been planned for some time. Was this known since last year? What is known about October layoffs? Numbers? Areas? It all s&cks!

I've been planning this since last year. Oh, you mean how long has the company been planning this. Not as long as I have.
I am a measly frontline manager and I knew in June. So others higher up the chain knew earlier than that.
The original layoffs didn't even include the fact that they lost contracts like CalPers. This isn't close to over for a long time. They'll just keep cutting and lying as they do. They have ditched probably about 20k employees since September of 2023. They will keep going. Media needs to somehow get this information. Dell and Intel lay off people and it's huge news. They are struggling. Meanwhile Elevance is making record revenue and still doing this. Evil.
I agree on the previous msg below. Thankful for this forum for giving an early heads up for the 8/8 RIF. Of course, I didn’t want to get RIF’d but at least it did not come as a complete shock to me when I was informed on 8/8, the folks in this forum somehow made me ready to hear the news.
In June of this year, I vividly remember seeing posts about an 8/8 layoff. The OP was spot on. There are people in the know obviously, and they are doing God's work. I don't want to get laid off, but at least I can be mentally prepared if it happens.
In the Q4 Investors call they announced that $700M was being allocated to the expense of terminating people over an undetermined period of time. Resource Optimization was the phrasing of choice by JG. If you estimate how much each person gets, and divide $700M by the average severance cost per person, that gets you the target number they had in mind last October. So just for example, if the average cost to RIF a person is $35K that would be 20,000 individuals that they were planning on getting rid of as of October 2023. Because they are being so secretive it is hard to know how close they are to hitting that original plan they had to cut cost and destroy people's lives in the process
There were anonymous posts on various sites since at least June warning about the 8/8 date. This has clearly been known for some time.
