Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The boomers have left the building

For all you boomer haters on this site, when are you going to realize that the boomers are mostly already retired? No boomers left to clog up the system. No boomers left to block your promotions. So please stop using that excuse for your lack of advancement. Gen X is now RE/NRE and nobody from the younger generations can complain that they have had less opportunity than Gen X, the most sh-t upon generation in history.

OP ONLY THE BOOMERS??? EVERYBODY HAS LEFT THE BUILDING !!! There's nobody left at Exxon. The campus is less than 50% occupied. Clinton, Sarnia and Calgary are ghost towns by now. Nobody goes to work anymore. Very very few people at the Baytown and Beaumont complexes, mostly contractors. Everybody is gone. Except in BTC where they have thousands of employees.

Boomer is a mindset that Gen X fully took on. They never challenged the boomers and now we have to suffer until they leave.

@cfj Whatever you say, boomer.

Your idea of mentoring is me fixing your computer problems and building macros for your spreadsheets. I’ve spent way more time going around people over 50 to get my job done than I have on any BS social media. Take your stereotypes and cram them up your self-righteous hind-parts.

@OP I’m still seeing a lot of boomers.

It’s also boomers who are making all the major business decisions that you RE-types keep whining about here.

I think a lot of you are just salty that the gravy train stopped, and you can’t milk your employer for a posh salary while doing almost nothing, all the while proclaiming yourselves to be indispensable technical experts (you’re not). It’s almost worth not having a future or job security just to watch all of you squirm, whine and complain.

Here’s the door. Show yourselves out =====> [- ]

Poeple can't work forever and one day the young ones will have their shot. In my day I took every chance I could to learn from the older guys, and most were really good at what they did. I would have never learned how to drill a well right without spending countless hours on the rig with many company men in their late 50's and early to mid 60's. These were men that had fought in wars like WWII and in Korea. Experiences that had made them men of the like this country does not have anymore. The amount of patience they had and how they reacted during tough times on the rigs were something that stayed with me to this day. These days I see new grads put with mentors that are not that much older than them. If you know an older employee you should go out of your way to get them to mnetor you. One day you will look around and they will all be gone.

I get the generation victimology. I put the blame square on everyone’s parents on not raising ethical people. The people I work with had or looked like they had ethics until we were purchased. As our supers moved in, them and their cronies showed who they really are. No integrity no ethics or humility. Be glad when this is over.

@cfj+1 Thanks. Now I finally understand why everyone hates the boomers. You’ve come back as a blue badge just to torment us with your superiority complex?

There are still a few of us left and some as contractors and consultants. Some of us were brought back because the new hires did not know what the he-l they were doing. The loss of the experienced people left a technological void that was not taught in schools. We don t need to clog up the way for the youngsters because we can retire anytime. Some of us like to share knowledge and teach. The young generation is not interested in learning because they know it all or they want to all be managers. Most of the younger workers cannot focus on tasks and spend all day on their phones watching tik toks or movies. One guy jams out loud on his headphones all day. You can never get in touch with him because he is listening to music all day. Another watches movies at their desk while entering data or working with excel. The result is lots of mistakes with data entry.
