Contractor at Marathon - how do things work at COP

Hello All,

I have been an IT contractor at MRO for the past 13 years. Now that we will be acquired by COP, I was just curious if anyone has an idea on how COP handles contractors after acquisition? Are they typically let go or continued as contractors?

Don't listen to the people here. Think of this website like a meeting ground for all of the negative employees and contingent workers that do nothing but complain about things they have no control over. It's fear driven on one hand and delusional noise on the other.

They don't realize this fact because nobody in the office even bothers telling them that they are nothing but insufferable complainers. They are talked about here, just not to their faces because you'll never hear the end of it.

I've been with COP for over a decade. Countless layoffs as i was working as a contractor. Employed for years. Truth is nobody is safe. Like the aforementioned complainers above. My god, hopefully most of them going to get a rude surprise come next year.

Then good luck to us all when we compare a new employer to COP. Think they've forgotten or probably never experienced other companies. spoilt, ungrateful children that really have never worked a day in the lives. It's embarrassing to say the very least.

Leas than 1% of MRO employees will have a job so safe bet they won’t keep any contractors. Spend your final days updating your resume.

I was a contractor writing software for CoP for 24 years. Went through Phillips and Burlington and also all the downturns. Everything people are saying here is bs. The "good" contractors are the second to last to leave. Bad employees first, Bad Contractors next. Good employees that aren't focused on their bosses plan, next. Average contractors that are billing $150 an hour, next. I could go on, but everyone gets the point. You will be ok if you are more competent then your peers, if not go study.

During downtimes, COP will lay off contractors before employees. COP will shift employees around before laying them off. It does not look good for you.

Things work horribly across the board.

Don’t count on staying employed with ConocoPhillips after the merger.
Time to start knocking on doors and drumming up new business.
