Ghosting LR folks

Hope all those that ghosted close coworkers and friends affected by previous LRs get theirs in this next round.

Don't expect any help from those who are now in great positions and hiring.

The culture in general treats LRed folks horribly. From cutting them off with no notice, to just ignoring them. People nearing retirement are often impacted and some of them just say "I've had it" and retire early. But there is NEVER any retirement party for them as they are like second class citizens once they make the list. Its a very sad culture we have!

In my experience, it's a small world out there in tech as tech has so many areas of expertise. The number of times I've bumped into people from previous jobs, or started a job and found out a previous co-worker from 5+ yrs ago had just left and I was their replacement or their replacement's replacement is unreal. I've also heard about prev co-workers interviewing where I'm currently at.

If you ghosted me when I needed help finding a new job, do you think I'll stick out a helping hand when I hear you're interviewing at my current company? Karma, baby.

I've never ghosted anyone except one person that was pretty much just tolerated by everyone, including his recruiter. I may have lost touch w/ people, but it was from lack of mutual contact, not because I ignored them. How would anyone at Cisco (or other employer for that matter) know if I've kept in touch w/ someone via our personal email addresses? How can anyone shame me for staying in touch if they don't know about it. The only ones who might know are the one's also staying in touch with them.

The ghosting culture at Cisco is stupid.

Ghosting is sad but a real thing at Cisco. it’s a choice. Let’s not make that choice moving forward. Lift each other up, it could be any of us that gets the webex meeting from our manager.

Ghosting LR people is part of the toxic environment. It’s hard to leave and it’s hard to stay. I’m not making excuses for anyone. I am saying, don’t become them on the outside.

I had some pretty ugly sh!t happen to me during my 20 years at Cisco. People who ghosted me aren’t even on my list of people I hope the karma police go after.

Just be kind. Cisco was a weird freaking place, I hope we all get to a better place of an healthy workplace after we leave.

I got a Basketball Jones, oh baby

I took that basketball everywhere I went
You know what that basketball was like a basketball to me

So true and real. Never underestimate a down and out peer, your luck is lurking round the corner.
